Lexus Fans Continue to Hope for a V10-Powered M5 Killer

lexus-gsf-1600.jpg

Lexus fans want it to happen so bad and now they can practically feel it. Or at least hear it.

We're talking about an F-version of the GS sedan, one preferably with the new V10 that debuted in the LFA. It's an idea that has been thrown around for years, and now Pistonheads has run a story that suggests a GS-F is being considered very seriously within Lexus.

There are some major hurdles, of course. Cost is the big one as that new V10 is not cheap. They figure it would add $50-60K to the price of the GS, making it far more expensive than its European competitors. Sound DOA based on that alone, but count on the Lexus faithful to keep the rumors circulating for another couple of years.

I think there will be a GS-F, but not in this generation. Perhaps the next. But, like MB and BMW have said, I expect to see smaller displacement, high tech, forced induction engines in place of large high revving wonders like the outgoing M5.

Hey! LF-A V10, anyone? Haha, probably not happening, but imagine how awesome that would be.

This version of the car is NOT worth that engine...

The real question is, will the V-10 equipped Lexus still come with a cassette player? ;-)

I thought that there was someone at Toyota or Lexus that already said that the V10 engines were already spoken for the LF-A only. I don't know how Lexus is open to using force induction engines instead (I know there are advantages and disadvantages in such setups).

Are they EVER going to update the GS? That car seemed ancient and dated in 2004 when it premiered. Now it's just a joke like the once awesome SC. Remember when the SC was sexy? Then Lexus turned it into a bland hardtop convertible.

No engine is worth $50k to $60K. What idiot is in charging of pricing this car?

a 750Li v8 is $85,900
a 760Li v12 is $137,000
+$51,100

an s550 is $91,600
an s600 is $149,700
+$58,100

a 911, 345 hp is $77,800
a 911, 500 hp is $132,800
+$55,000

Yup. Looks like +$50k-$60k is standard for upgrading from great to supreme.
It's diminishing returns, closer you get to max, the more it costs per increment.
It's entirely appropriate for top of the line tech.

LF-A engine idle to redline in 0.6 seconds. That's not something a regular wealthy person should be able to obtain.

A GSF will debut with the next generation GS but the V-10 I wouldn't count on it. More like a supercharged 460 maybe?
