BMW announced pricing for the 2011 BMW 740i today. This would be the 7 Series with the 315-horsepower version of the company's twin-turbocharged and direct-injected N54 inline six-cylinder engine. It'll be the first 7 Series in 18 years with fewer than eight cylinders.
The regular-wheelbase 740i will cost $71,025. That's almost 12 grand cheaper than the V8-equipped 750i ($82,875) before you even consider the latter's $1,000 guzzler tax, which we presume the 740i will avoid in whole or part.
For a long-wheelbase 740Li, it'll be $75,425 -- $11,350 cheaper than a 750Li ($86,775) before the gas-guzzler tax is considered.

That's more than $6000 more than '06 when Mercedes-Benz offered the S350. I hope the S-Class comes available with a six-cylinder option again in the US.
