GM has released a statement regarding the 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe that was recalled along with a whole bunch of Toyotas last week. GM says that based on its experience, "the Vibe is safe to drive," and it received no complaints of unintended acceleration prior to the recall.
Notably, GM says that after the recall it received several complains about sticking throttle pedals from customers. None of the claimed incidents caused any accidents.
Think people might be watching the news just a little too much?

This whole Toyota recall has been receiving extensive media coverage. I think some owners are getting too scared and over reacting. A 68 year old lady trying to park her Camry crashed it through the front of a laundromat and blamed the accelerator but from reading the story, it sounds more like she meant to hit the brake but accidently hit the accelerator. You can read the story and decide if I'm right. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/29/elderly-driver-crashes-camry-into-laundromat-blames-unintended/

I think this is getting blown WAY out of proportion. WAY OUT. And the media is eating it up. GM is eating it up. The other dealers in my town are eating it up. One even had an ad running on it's marquee saying it will pay top dollar for Toyota trades.
People just need to relax and treat this like any other recall. Affects some cars, not all and a VERY FEW will actually have an issue. But not enough to warrant the firestorm that this is causing.

Taking this into consideration, maybe GM should phase out the Vibe...wait a minute.

Most people haven't the backbone to accept they screwed up. Luckily for them they get to blame Toyota for a while.
This whole thing should really help BMW. Image how many cars they will sell to lawyers when they get their share of all the settlement money.
