Exclusive Spy Shots: 40th Anniversary Nissan 370Z Revealed

2010_370z_f34_nissan_ss_1600_3.jpg

This is the much-anticipated 40th Anniversary Edition 2010 Nissan 370Z. It was caught by a spy photographer in Southern California this morning a couple of weeks before its planned debut, which is set to take place during the Chicago auto show.

These exclusive spy photos, obtained only by Inside Line, reveal a more mild treatment than Z fans might have been expecting. The dark gray body color is unique, of course, as are the body-color wheels and the red brake calipers, but the wheel design and bodywork appear to be unchanged. Even the rear spoiler looks to be the same as the spoiler on a 370Z Touring.

Badging has also been kept to a minimum. Only a single, small 40th Anniversary badge on the car's rear bumper (just below the standard 370Z badge) tells the valet this is no ordinary Z.

All we know about the interior is that it has red leather covering standard Z Touring seats, and we know even less about the sports car's mechanical bits. We've been told the car would use some Nismo parts, but we won't really know until Chicago.

More spy photos after the jump.

A " much anticipated " trim package?

Scott, does your brother know you're taking pictures of his car?

Actually, hold on a second, Wheel of Fortune's on TV and I really want to answer this one. Can anyone help me out -- what's an eight-letter word for genealogical preferential treatment?

Sexy as hell like all Zs, cept the wheels, which are giving me a hernia

i guess the only way to get a nice paint job from the factory (something standard not too long ago) is to pay extra for a special edition.

Yawn. Are they at least going to give it brakes that work?

I bought an used 08 350z, mainly cuz i couldnt afford it new, much less i could afford the new one... i i guess that ill trade this one in for the new one in 3 years...Z's are becoming unobtanium, once they hit 40 grand they never come back...

Nothing tells of 40th anniversary like metallic gray paint! The Z is a nice looking car no matter what color coat it wears.
The big question- are there "special" features this car has over the other models besides colors (exterior and interior)?

trjnflip says:

why do these "spy shots" look totally staged?

kurt_ says:

Looks like they were grabbed during a photo shoot with not so tight security.

Nice color combo!

beermagazine says:

I guess you might need to be a Z fan to know that the Anniversary Editions aren't really going to be different. The last one (35th) was nothing more than seat stitching and some different wheels. I can't see what they would do to this to make it a better value than the NISMO.

You mean the photo shoot was for Insideline? haha.

This color is great, but hey Nissan, how about a "black/gold" edition like the 280ZX?
Errr... okay then.

This could not be any more staged-looking if you tried.

calspecial68 says:

What a mundane, if conservative, special edition of a great car.

Is it just me, or does this thing look like it's sitting 4" above the tires?
Just awful Nissan - unless this is the a new 2-door crossover SUV - hah!

Edmunds this is not news Nissan has had all this info up on nissannews.com for weeks if not months.

@trjnflip

I was just saying the same thing - STAGED! Spy my skinny behind!

beermagazine says:

@lmeshonjr
Any shot of a car from ground level is going to show the wheel gap. Most cars have this and it's very apparent if you shoot form the ground. Lots of shots you see are staged to lower the cars with weight, and if the car is taking a corner one side will show more gap too.

As an owner of a G35 with a similar exterior color (Diamond Graphite) I guess I'm biased in favor of the car in the photo.

Biased but not so vain that I would spend an extra $4000 for badging and "special color treatments."

thehardcard says:

I also have a similar vehicle (Dark Slate 2007 Altima SE). I also would want mre than just this color (though I obviously like it also. Maybe they come with the oil cooler standard.

Bah, I'd rather have Nizmo Edition. It looks pretty plain to me. The back reminds me of Mitsubishi Eclipe. Guess Nissan aggress that 4th Generation Mitsubishi Eclipse is a pretty cool car.

This was a photoshoot taken at Willow Springs (Horse Thief Mile) in preparation for the Chicago auto show. The older Z shown in one of the photos is mine. It is an early model 1970 and is actually the 920 Safari Gold color. Too bad I can't post photo's here...I'd put one up of the two cars together.
