Chrysler 3.6L Pentastar V6: Fix It Again, Tony?

chrysler_pentastarV6.jpg

The Chrysler-Fiat alliance did not bother to bring the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee to the Detroit auto show, even though the redesigned SUV is scheduled to go on sale in the second quarter of this year. There is, however, a working electrified model of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that's slated to go in the Grand Cherokee.

Except it wasn't working when we went by. So several members of the support staff were wrenching on it.

They did manage to get it going again before we left, so there's a quick and dirty video of that after the jump.

Chain driven cams, dishes in the pistons for valves clearance, oil filter up top and good use of aluminum as well as plastic. Sounds like they’re interested in making it reliable and easy to work on. The next gen Grand Cherokee should be reliable if nothing else.

This headline is so wrong on so many levels. Alas, I laughed so hard I spilled my drink!
Nice job Erin.

Very reassuring. My 1999 Wrangler will almost certainly be my last Jeep. In the first place, I don't know what I'd replace it with, and second, the TJ was so basic that even UAW labor couldn't screw up its assembly.

Man; as if Chysler didn't have enough to worry about.....

Hey guys, this is a electric motor driven model of the engine and not the real thing. And where are they gong to fix it - in their garage?

And BTW, I own a 4WD 2011 Grand Cherokee with this new engine. I just got 24 MPG on the highway and the engine out performs the 3.2 liter V6 in my 2009 Grand Cherokee.

This is our fourth Grand Cherokee starting with our first with a inline 6 and I believe they have a winner again!
