One of the writers at Jalopnik had an interesting conversation with a couple of GM officials this week: The possibility of allowing Corvette ZR1 owners to assemble the very LS9 V8 that will go into their cars is currently under consideration.

I'd love to read the warranty statement on that one.

Doubt GM will allow this. And would this ad or detract to the value of the car at resale when you find the car was built by a GM certified trained technician and a Louisville lottery winner?

Excuse me, the engine not the car.

firstclass, If GM were worried about resale value that would address the quality of the materials used on the 'Vette's interior. Check out IL's new addition to the LT fleet, a low mileage 8-year old C5 Z06 that they paid $20K for, $30K less than it cost in 2002.
I agree that it seems unlikely that GM would actually do this. But I think it's a really interesting idea, and I would love to do it myself.

I'd want trained professionals/machines to make mine. I don't want to make it i want to ride it.

you build it, you bought it. the engine will explode the first time they fire it up.

Why? I've assembled several engines over the years. None blew up.
It's not rocket science, it's just following a series of steps.

Sign me up! Of course I'll be claiming my UAW pay scale and "Cadillac" benefits package for my work, as well as my smoking new 'Vette!
