Chevrolet Aveo RS Photos Leak

chevrolet_aveo_rs_717.jpg

chevrolet_aveo_rs_2.jpg GM confirmed last week -- via Twitter -- that an all-new Chevrolet Aveo with an RS badge will debut at next week's 2010 Detroit Auto Show.

And this afternoon, somebody, somewhere in the world, got hold of a magazine or pamphlet featuring the Aveo RS and shot these. Yay.

I don't know, it's distinctive. I rather like it. And I continue to really like the Chevy corporate nose. Now if they would just affix it to the G8 and call it the Chevelle we'd be golden.

Personally, I like the styling, but bear in mind that this is only a concept. Bear in mind that even the Pontiac Aztek looked fairly good in concept form. It's the transformation from concept to reality that I'm worried about. For example, the original Chevy Beat concept looked great as a 2 door, but the 4 door one that is on sale now in Europe kind of looks like a little too dumbed down.

Try to imagine what this Aveo will look like when you strip away the HID headlamps, add normal sized side mirrors, put on 15 inch wheels with hubcaps, add tiny drum brakes to the rear, and add 3 inches of wheel well clearance.

Aside from the styling, I think what has to matter most for this car is how it drives. At a minimum, it has to be on par with the Fit and upcoming Fiesta, and I really hope that the shift feel has been improved 10 fold over what the current Aveo's manual transmission feels like. Otherwise, this car is just an also-ran.

The RS is just the sport model- this is what the car is going to look like. Obviously lesser models would have smaller wheels and no HID lights. Just for reference the Fit looks horrible with the base wheelcovers as opposed to the 16" or 17" rims that come on the sport model that is always tested by the magazines.

Most people buy autos so shift feel isnt likely to be relevant and we all know the manual wont be praised relative to what's in the Fit. Good thing customers generally want the auto.

real info will be out tomorrow.

GAG is right. Another angry little machine with too-small side glass. I'll pass.

I don't like it as much as the Fiesta, but it looks worlds better than the Fit, Versa, Yaris, Accent...
