Nissan and Infiniti confirmed today that they will have a booth at the 2010 New York Auto Show in late March. Additionally, the redesigned 2011 Infiniti QX56 will make its official debut there. This will be the first major U.S. show Nissan has attended this season, after skipping the LA, Detroit and upcoming Chicago auto shows.
Blurry images of the second-generation QX56 full-size sport utility leaked out of a dealers' meeting in Las Vegas last fall. The new QX was developed in Japan, rather than the U.S., and it's said to use unit-body construction as opposed to the first truck's body-on-frame architecture.

Erin, this is a unit-body? I thought it was t be based on the next-gen Nissan Patrol?

Hi, Bob. At this point, we've heard tales of both unit-body construction and Nissan Patrol-derived architecture. And it's still unclear whether this is a both/and or an either/or proposition. Obviously, for both to be true, the Patrol would have to undergo a major change of its own.
But this report that we got last May was credible: http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2009/03/next-generation-qx56-will-come-from-japan-on-unibody-chassis.html
I think we'll have to wait until early/mid March before we know exactly what's going on with the QX56. -- Erin

A design that is even more peculiar than the previous generation. Japanese styling doesn't work on an American-sized SUV

I could not disagree more with suvblogger. This truck is far more proportioned and attractive than the one it replaces. The 1st gen Q56's front ent sinply looked HUGE...which is okay if that's what you want. Hopefully this platform is more refined. I have a '08 Armada and like it alot, but the chassis can loose it's composure when the roads get rough. Is a new Armada replacement based on the same platform as this new Q56 far behind?

The original QX didn't deserve a luxury badge in the first place as the materials used were horrible considering the price. Also, Infiniti could have gave it more exclusive styling as it was basically a Armada clone. The one i the picture seems to have cured those issues.

Not really, as Nissan's next Armada looks almost the same.

^ Actually, my blog entry from December '08 states Nissan Patrol, not Armada; so I guess we'll see...

A big dinosaur with refinement? Ok whatever.
