No record-breaking attempt would be complete without a video of a spectacular failure along the way. Travis Pastrana has been getting some practice in ahead of his upcoming New Year's Eve performance during which he'll attempt to jump his Subaru WRX STI rally car from the end of the Pine Street pier in Long Beach, California, to a barge floating in the harbor. The objective is to break teammate Ken Block's jump distance record of 171 feet.
And as you can see in this video, he didn't quite nail the landing on his last jump in this practice session.

Seems to me like he just got a healthy dose of reality right there! Big difference in attitude, before and after.

Ummm..... I'm thinking this was just a publicity thing to keep up the "excitement" for the next few weeks. Where is the actual crash footage?
Why, with the career this guy has going, would this guy risk serious injury with this kind of stuff? And, where is his HANS device?

I'm with Rick, this 'crash' was staged. They had cameras in the car, cameras on the jump and yet no footage of the actual landing...
Who knows, maybe they just beat up a spare car to make it look like it crashed, to hype up the event?

There may or may not have been some kind of crash. If there was, it was minor and they're playing it up. If it had happened like they want you to believe, there'd be more damage and injury.

He's using the wrong car for his attempt. Everyone should know by now that you need a 1970 Orange Dodge Charger with 01 on the side and a Confederate flag on the roof to attempt this type of stunt. Oh, and the rear wheels never break off the solid axle Dodge. Even old Cornets and AMC Matadors make this attempt look lame!

hmm... minor quibble... it was a 1969... but still ya. And they need the horn too!
