Hyundai: Sporty Front-Drive Coupe, Along with Redesigned Accent, Elantra, Santa Fe Coming for 2011

hyundai_veloster_blog.jpg

Hyundai has been one of the few sales success stories of 2009, and the company is pushing ahead with a fairly aggressive product inititative. The redesigned 2011 Tucson goes on sale this month, followed by the 2011 Sonata in the January-February time frame. Later in 2010, we'll see the 2011 Equus, which is Hyundai's no-holds-barred attempt at competing with the S-Class, or at least the Lexus LS.

And today, Hyundai officials confirmed once more that the 2012 Hyundai Veloster (or whatever Hyundai decides to call the sporty, Accent-sized, front-drive coupe that replaces the Tiburon) is on track for 2011. This tiny four-seater will use a direct-injected 1.6-liter four-cylinder to deliver feisty performance along with 40 mpg.

Also in 2011, we'll see redesigned versions of the Accent, Elantra and Santa Fe.

So...in essence between 2008~2010 they would have redesigned their entire fleet and bring in 4 brand new cars. Very impressive.

Sounds promising...As long as it has a slick gearbox and a revy little engine, it could be a lot of fun.

Looks very cool. I would hope for a 3-door, six speed, and at least 120 hp....assuming it's a subcompact. I could have some fun tossing it through the twisties. Good for Hyundai, they recognize there is market for small, sporty cars with good fuel efficiency.

The looks remind me of a destitute-man's GTR. Actually, that sounds like a fun idea!

120 hp should be easy for a DI 1.6. Maybe even 140. But how much will it weigh?

Indeed. But Hyundai seems to be getting the low weight side of the equation - the new tucson weighs less than its predecessor, yet is bigger, more powerful, etc. can't remember whether the new sonata is too?

yeah, the sonata is 130 pounds lighter, too

Boy are you guys ignorant about this company. Destitute man's GTR my ass. This car will go up against the MINI, its the Accent Hatch. Hyundai is going to replace both the Tiburon and traditional Accent hatch with this.

Engines:

145 HP GDI=45 MPG
176 HP GDI=41 MPG
2.0=undisclosed.

There wil be a Sedan which looks like a Baby Sonata, Hybrid, and a 5 Door Hatch(Elongated Veloster) too
