Build Your Own U.S.-spec 2011 Ford Fiesta

build_a_fiesta.jpg

Ford has launched a 2011 Ford Fiesta configurator tool. Obviously, you can't actually buy a car right now since our Fiesta doesn't go on sale until next summer. But you can build and accessorize a 2011 Fiesta hatch or sedan to your heart's content.

You can then "reserve" a built Fiesta and Ford will throw in Sync and an upgraded sound system at no extra charge (so, apparently, no need to spring for the pricier SES model like we did). The offer is non-binding, but if you wanted to take advantage of the freebies, you'd have to build the car before April 2, 2010, and then sign a purchase agreement at a Ford dealership by May 3, 2010.

Another thing you'll notice about the build-your-Fiesta tool is that every time you add an option or accessory (like the snazzy 17s we put on our hypothetical hatchback), the tool adjusts your likely monthly payment. We checked, and it assumed we were going to put $1,780 down and then finance the car at 7 percent for a 60-month term. This is all adjustable, of course. Useful, too. And we're sure Ford hopes it will make the car more attractive to younger buyers who may not have dealt with the hassle of figuring out monthly payments before.

Ford, Kia, Chyrsler, have some of the best websites....some of the worst are GM, Hundai and Nissan IMO

I base this on ease of use and speed.

The Ford build-your-own website has had that payment calculator for some time now.

The pricing of the Fiesta looks competitive, but it's a shame that they are charging $2K for the nice looking 17" wheels that so many of the launch cars are wearing and that they've made those an "accessory" rather than a from-the-factory option.

@prefcustomer

I agree, $2k is a lot of money for accessory wheels on an economy car. Better that they should go to $2,500 and through in a minor suspension upgrade and rear discs.

Well everyone don't be premature. Anyone read that Ford will be bringing out a version of the Fiesta with an EcoBoost powerplant? I am absolutely sure that Ford is saving the real ammo for this model which will most likely come standard with most of the items that are optional on these lesser models. Can anyone say "SVT?"

If the web site is correct, all Fiestas will have rear drum brakes. Aside from my 1975 2002 and my 1999 Wrangler I haven't owned a car without four wheel disc brakes for over a decade.

A Fit has drum brakes also. There has to be some comprimise on price somewhere in order for the car to be priced where it is. Dont get me wrong I love disc brakes. One out the three cars I own have them but I really dont notice any difference since I am a conservative carefull driver now.

I would; my driving style is careful- but not conservative. Too much horsepower is just enough.
Barely.
