2011 Infiniti M56 Debuts in L.A.

infiniti-m-la-f34-1600.jpg
This was the official world premiere of the Infiniti M56 sedan. Already shown in virtual form a few months ago, this pre-L.A. auto show event featured a real live prototype.

We drove a similar 2011 Infiniti M56 awhile back and came away with the impression that it was a positive step for Infiniti's midsize sedan. Nothing groundbreaking, but noticeable improvements in every respect.

The crowd who saw it tonight in Beverly Hills seemed equally impressed. We were underwhelmed by the lackluster wheels but we're assured that the sport versions are far more impressive. The interior is certainly a step up, as it manages to cram in more technology without looking like there's a laptop jammed into the dash. Nice wood trim, too.

underwhelming design in every way. Many people wont be able to tell the difference between this and the 2010 model. Those wheels are too conservative and look too small as well.

@1487

Sure they will. The only ones that won't be able to notice the difference are those that never noticed the previous gen M in the first place. But yeah; they could have used better rims to showcase the new M. I'm surprised they didn't use the M56S for this occasion.

I find the new design bold and refreshing. It has some of the swept back look with the elevated C-pillar like the upcoming touring sedans such as the BMW 5GT, Audi S7, and Porsche Panamera, but without the unappealing hatchback lid. The slight hump on the side crease towards the rear door is also pretty neat.

What's with the rug?

I don't think it is as beautiful as G37 or Jaguar XJ.

I like the exterior styling. It reminds me of the Audi S5, which is actually a good deal better looking. Still, it's quite nice.

Underwhelming? 1487 you must need to get your eyes checked. This car is a clear change from the previous M series.

@ 1487, I love how you force your opinion on everyone else.

Although I think it's quite conservative overall, the new M is quite different as the previous design was more chiseled. The new M is waaaay more fluid and voluptuous. Big difference.

@ Mrryte, exactly!

Curves and creases in all the right places. This design might be somewhat conservative but at least it will look fresh for a while which is a good thing since the buyer will probably hold on for at least five years. No more short term 2-3 year leases.

The new M is very cool, great muscular profile, etc. Totally different from previous M models.

I am very proud to drive an Infiniti. ('09 FX35)

Love it! Current M owner - best car I've ever owned. This will likely keep me in the Infiniti fold. Beautiful interior!!
