In honor of the Dodge Viper's planned extinction, Dodge continues to announces special-edition versions. Today it's the 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR-X, a more serious race version of the ACR, which is already set up for track use. Production starts in the spring and the price will be "approximately $110,000."
The ACR-X is 160 pounds lighter, you see. The front-passenger seat is gone, there's a racing seat for the driver, plus a full cage and a fuel cell (the kind for racing, not greenies), and the car comes with primer-coat body panels -- all ready for you to paint and add your sponsors' livery.
A less restrictive exhaust liberates 40 extra horsepower from the 8.4-liter V10 for a total of 640 at 6,100 rpm, plus more torque, too -- now 585 pound-feet at 5,000 rpm. The adjustable coil-over suspension from the regular ACR remains, but its calibrations have gotten more aggressive. And we're told there are functional aero upgrades as well.
Probably then, you'll want to trailer the car to track days, which is about what Dodge has in mind anyway. You see, Dodge is setting up a new spec series -- the Dodge Viper Cup -- just for the Viper ACR-X as part of the existing Viper Racing League.
The car's racing debut is scheduled for July 9-11, 2011 at Virginia International Raceway. Dodge plans a contingency program of cash ($6,500 to the winner) and Mopar parts vouchers ($1,000 to the winner) for the top finishers in each race -- there will be 10 total.

I'm pretty sure I'd kill myself if I tried to drive one of these.
