Too wide, probably too heavy. BMW has a habit of trying to spread an envelope too far and ripping the paper. 6 cylinder race bikes just don't have the right weight to power ratio to compete. It has a phenomenal look to it though.

Seems like an answer to a question nobody asked (do we need a modern replacement for the CBX/Sei/KZ1300).

Interesting technological exercise though. The engine seems pretty narrow for a straight 6.

Nice design! That 6 is going to be a monster smooth mill
I hope they make it with minimal changes to the design

Too wide? Have you seen this engine? It looks no wider than a conventional inline 4-cylinder engine.

BMW has hinted that this engine will show up in a premium touring bike. Can you say "Gold Wing fighter?"

rsholland,

Is there really a market for another two wheeled sedan like the Goldwing? Kawasaki just rolled out its competitor, Victory has the Vision, HD has the Ultra Glide, and BMW already has the K1200 RT full dresser. Why add the complexity and additional weight and cost of the 6 to an already expensive K-bike?

BMW must think so, as why else would they go to the trouble and expense of creating this concept?

Meanwhile they're planning to go four-cylinder (maybe even four-cylinder only) for the US-market 3-series. The left hand knoweth not what the right hand doth. . .
