After Chrysler decided to pull out of its agreement this summer to build rebadged versions of its Ram truck for Nissan, the fate of the Titan looked grim.

We hadn't heard any updates since, but last night Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn told Inside Line that the Titan will survive.

"Titan will have a replacement, we are staying in the large pickup truck market," Ghosn told us. He then said it could be built and designed in house or with a collaborator, but wouldn't get any more specific.

So the Titan is likely to spill a few years past its production run while waiting for the replacement. It's already due for a replacement so hopefully Nissan can deliver a strong product in a hurry.

All it really needed was a more fuel efficient engine. Bottom of class fuel economy doesn't help.

Excellent news! I have the truck pictured above in my driveway and feel like it is too good of a unit with too much invested to not build upon.

They will do well if they can bring a diesel and/or a hybrid to market. A mildy turbo boosted 3.5l VQ V6 with say 300 horsepower/325 ft/lb would be a viable base engine - kind of like Ford's eco-boost engines that are coming to market.

Honestly, the Titan looks and drives very great right now. Much better than the Tundra for sure.
