The official pricing release came out for the 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid X6 today, and at $89,725 with destination, BMW's oddly proportioned hybrid crossover costs exactly as much as its oddly proportioned M-badged crossover, the X6 M.
Our brains can't work out why you'd buy a hybrid SUV (with a V8, two electric motors, a magical transmission and a big battery pack) over a 555-hp SUV that hauls to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, but we're pretty sure it has nothing to do with CO2 mitigation.
In any case, the X6 Hybrid comes with a lot of stuff -- stuff that you have to pay extra for on either the X6 M or the "conventional" X6 xDrive50i. The equipment list includes Nappa leather on the seats, dash and console; four-zone climate control; premium sound with a DVD changer; and a rearview camera.
Among the options are rear-seat entertainment ($1,700), active seat ventilation ($1,100), cold weather package ($500), automatic high-beams ($250) and smart phone integration ($150... really, we have to pay for that?). Sport seats are a no-cost option and worth ordering if you plan to hit your apexes in a 5,700-pound crossover.

... so it's cheaper than an X6 M.

This thing is ridiculous. What a waste of development money. And it costs less than an X6 M if it has more stuff included, no?

Pointless, stupid vehicle. I'm sure a lot will sell in Dubai.

Ridiculous vehicle, BMW should have made this diesel and the 3 series a hybrid. The X6M is a pointless. They should have developed a vehicle with less weight (over 5000 pounds for a four seater SUV?)....The guys at Honda made their 7 seater MDX under 5000 pounds, less weight, less power, more efficiency?

I'm not worried about it, because i wont be buying one. Not now. Not in 5 years.
If I want a BMW with compromised dynamics and high price, i'll just buy an X5.
