Report Says Subaru Version of Toyota FT-86 Will Get AWD and Turbo Engine

According to a report on 7Tune.com, Subaru's version of the FT-86 sportscar will get more than just new badges to differentiate it from its Toyota sibling. Instead of rear-wheel drive, Subaru's car will use an all-wheel drive setup along with a turbocharged version of the boxer four-cylinder engine. The Subaru sportscar will also get a slightly larger body and most likely a substantially higher price.

Oh, yeah! Sweet. I'm so glad that Subaru is getting this car!!! I hope, though, that they keep this thing priced in the $20's.

I wonder, will they use the 2.5 that the other US cars get, or will they use the 2.0 that is more common in Japan?

Looks promising. Just, for the love of God, put a good supportive sport seat in the car, something Toyobaru is incapable of doing it seems.

So what you're saying is, Subaru announced that the Subaru version of the car will actually be a Subaru.

Good call by Subaru. They are trying to maintain their niche brand identity, which has helped their sales considerably.

Those who want RWD out of this collaboration can opt for the Toyota version, and whatever TDR supplies as performance options to enhance enthusiast appeal.

I just knew the Subaru version would use a different drivetrain.

So, is this going to be the WRX coupe that was talked about a while back? And if so, does this point the design direction of the next Impreza? They do update the looks every few years or so, but this would be another major platform change.
