Yep, just one, an manual-transmission Corvette if you're curious. Guy wanted an automatic instead.
The rest of GM's customers have taken the $500 cash incentive instead. So what does that say about the success of the program?
GM says that people clearly loved their cars so much they didn't see a need to return them. Then again, it's hard to tell if most of those customers were already GM buyers or the more coveted "conquest buyers" from other brands.

Maybe they just didn't hate them enough want to go through the hassle of buying another car.
Although to be fair, I'm sure most just think that their car is fine.

it doesn't say anything much about the success or failure of the program since GM said a lot of the buyers chose the $500 cash incentive instead.

and if GM is really going to see if people will return cars, just forget that $500 cash incentive offer. anyway, I will say this again... it's just another scammer program.

One of the conditions to returning a car under the buyback program was that you have to keep it for at least 30 days. The program started on 9/14, so the first day that anyone could possibly return a car under the program was 10/14. What time do dealers open again? For GM to announce, at noon (PST) on 10/14 that the program has been a success is JUST A TAD BIT PREMATURE. They might as well have made the announcement 2 days ago and proclaim that ZERO cars have been returned.

I think the fact that less than 0.07% (100 out of 150,000) opted for the buyback program is a bit more telling.
Either way, at least GM sold 150,000 cars in about a month. That's a good thing in my book.

Seems like 1487 is more well-known here than many of the editors. Hmm.
Anyway, to comment on the lone return. I can understand deciding that the MT Corvette is too much. I recall the clutch being very grabby -- felt like I was just learning to drive stick again. Hate to say it, but I'd probably get the AT too. For the sake of driveability.

amazing that the media didnt mention the 30 day minimum when reporting this story. You would think someone would have mentioned that to Lutz. Either way, few people are going to return their cars. This is more about showing confidence in the product that actually expecting people to return cars.
