Ford confirmed that it was building a Mustang for NASCAR use earlier this year. It even put out this oddly-proportioned, computer-generated drawing of the thing.
Now word has come down that the real car will be unveiled tomorrow at Roush Racing's headquarters in North Carolina. Since most of you are probably nowhere near North Caroline, Ford smartly decided to webcast the event. Look for it on Ford Racing's website tomorrow starting around 1:00 EDT.

whatever makes car companies think people give a shit what "model" their nascar team drives? first of all, the body kit is just the standard nascar slug that every team uses painted to look like a showroom model, and secondly, the inner machinations of the thing are so far removed from anything that is going to appear on your local showroom floor that there is no way someone can pick one up just to have the bragging rights to drive around town and say "hey, this is the same car that won the buttfuck500. who's bad?" i don't care if ford calls their nascar a taurus, a crown vic, a mustang, a fiesta, a pinto, or an f150, because whatever they call it... it ain't.

I agree with dnoodles. Money invested by Ford in NASCAR is a HUGE waste. I can get why fans like the racing, but I don't see why the manufacturers would bother to spend money. It's not The King in 1970 driving an actual Plymouth with an actual Plymouth engine. It's a generic shell with a generic engine.
As a consumer there is no 'halo effect' for me. If I happen to read that Joe Driver won Daytona for Ford, I know that he wasn't actually driving a Ford, the people in the stands know he wasn't driving a Ford. Spend your money elsewhere Ford.

I guess aerodynamics isn't an issue for NASCAR. I've always wandered if Smart Cruise Control was first tasted during NASCAR rase before using it on the production cars?))))) This technology must be very popular among NASCAR drivers.

Agreed. I actually think that it hurts Mustang to be sold out to NASCAR. Afterall, the Sprint cup has long lost it's luster and it's slow demise is eminent.

I think there are alot of diehard stang fans that would be happy that there's a mustang in nascar, but its gotta be hard to lie to yourself if you think this thing looks good. It really does the real 2010 mustang absolutely no justice.

+ every previous comment. Carbureted engines, 4 speed transmissions, uniform bodies, rules to ensure no manufacturer has an advantage, zzzzzzzzz.....

Yawn. DTM and semi-pro stuff like the Britcar are much more interesting since they...you know...use real cars. Plus they turn left AND right.

This is why I wonder why is NASCAR is so popular everyone is the same. Ironicly to quote a Need for Speed manual "Its one thing to dominate in a Pagani Zonda its another to do the same in a Civic."
