Inside Line tests hundreds of vehicles a year, but not every one gets a full write-up. The numbers still tell a story, though, so we're introducing a new feature on Straightline called "IL Track Tested." It's a quick rundown of all the data we collected at the track, along with comments direct from the test drivers. Enjoy.
Is the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander GT the Evo of crossovers? Not really. There's no dual-clutch transmission and no turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood either. So what makes it a GT?
Well, it does have a slightly more powerful version of Mitsubishi's 3.0-liter V6, not to mention a set of sizable 18-inch wheels and tires at each corner. The rest of the GT's upgrades are largely cosmetic, like the new Evo-inspired nose and contrasting interior stitching.
So how does the more powerful engine and extra grip of the 18-inch wheels and tires help? See for yourself in our latest report from the test track.

0-60 (sec): 7.9
0-75 (sec): 11.9
1/4 Mile (sec @ mph): 15.9 @ 87.8
0-60 with 1-ft Rollout (sec): 7.6
30-0 (ft): 32
60-0 (ft): 130
Braking Rating: Average
Slalom (mph): 66.2
Skid Pad Lateral Acceleration (g): 0.75
Handling Rating: Good
Db @ Idle: 36.1
Db @ Full Throttle: 69.2
Db @ 70 mph Cruise: 63.5
Acceleration Comments: Some front wheel slip at launch, presumably before power is fed to the rear wheels -- then immediate hookup. Good power above 4,700 rpm -- sounds like a two-stage manifold switch at that engine speed.
Braking Comments: Significant pedal fade on last run, distance unaffected.
Handling Comments: (Skid pad) Torque biasing feels odd with stability control off. You can truly feel it working in sometimes unnerving ways. (Slalom) Very aggressive stability control hurts an otherwise capable chassis. Turn it off and there's a little Evo in this Outlander.

This will have to face the New KIA Sorento which is getting some very positive reviews. I think i'll go with the Sorento purely based on the fact that is looks better, has a bigger engine, and probably will be cheaper.

66.2 mph for real? Beats most midsized RWD sedans then.

why is it so ugly?

Wish the next generation will be much better. Then I will hand on that car. The number is also impressive.

i like the outlander a lot, but not with this face. this is just ugly. did they mean only the GT will get this evo-inspired face? i hope so.. at least the old face is still around then.

This thing is really ugly, right on par with the Aztek...

I think it looks sweet. Looked better in white (early pics seen). You have to dig the new familial look for Mitsubishi to get it. At least it stands out unlike the previous front end that was very generic. I think that this package is OK, but wish that they dropped the ride height an inch or so. Let's face it, ground clearance is not a big deal on a vehicle like this and it would enhance the handling and appearance quite a bit in doing so. Also, a turbo 4 (think: Lancer Ralliart drivetrain) would have been more fun and competed directly with the likes of the CX7 and Forester XT.

Putting the EVO face on is a mistake, IMO. I hate when companies make their lineups too similar. The previous outlander looked great - no need for any major change in the looks department.

You'll note that the concept sat MUCH lower than the production version. Looks much better and would lower the center of gravity quite a bit, too.

So I guess Mitsubishi did more than a nose job on the 2010 Outlander. With these figures pulled directly from IL own test results. The 2010 Outlander with this S-AWD beats all current competition in tarmac handling numbers. Hopefully this new S-AWD will also improve the 2010 Outlanders handling/performance in the snow and mud, where the current model falls short when compared to the Forester or the Tiguan.
Rav4: 0-60 7.3 sec; 61.6 mph in the slalom
CRV: 0-60 10.0 sec; 63.1 mph in the slalom
Tiguan: 0-60 8.4 sec; 63.9 mph in the slalom
CX-7: 0-60 7.7 sec; 64.3 mph in the slalom
Forester XT: 0-60 6.8 sec; 60.3 mph in the slalom
2010 Outlander GT: 0-60 7.9 sec: 66.2 mph in the slalom

Very good info jrcola, now that is putting things in perspective. Good kob.
By the way, at least the editors didnt fail here....I see the trap speed!! Not like the track test of the X6M which never displayed the 1/4mile trap speed! FAIL. Or is it the big wrong stamp? lol

66.2 Slalom must be a misprint. Otherwise it would have been hilited in the "handling" section. No way that number is accurate.
And apparently Mitsubishi didn't learn from Audi that a big giant chrome trapazoid is not an attractive nose???

It's still got horrible lateral grip, which could be the result of the tires but still, .75g is pathetic as other cars manage higher with the same LS-2's. Steering feel and a whole bunch of other things contribute to how something handles so looking at a single number doesn't mean much of anything.

What a bunch of Dim-wit those criticizing the Outlander 2010...Really you are speaking non-facts here because YOU most probably NEVER driven one!
First, This is a more a mid-size Cross over vehicle than the Rav-shit, Cr-v dick, Mazda CX-7.
second, Mitsubishi was building machine way before is competitor existed...THEY are out to prove the world this product is the industry secret coming out now. Look at the Facts smart A... drive one and discover why it dilevers the most for your money.
Thirdly, They won the most race with the Dakar (most demanding race ever) 11 time in 12 years backed by the best warranty in the business....Mean something hey!
To those who give positive review on this Outlander, Bravo for telling it as it is. The other, Go K.... a Big B...
