Not really sure how a crate engine can be much of a surprise these days. Unless it has a blender on top in place of a carburetor, it will probably look just like every other crate engine known to man.
That didn't stop GM from making this promo video to generate some excitement. Are you pumped now or what?

Whatever.

F**k a crate engine. Who cares? This shouldn't even be a headline. GM needs to focus on speeding up the arrival of the Cruze and worry about how to find a way to have the Volt cost less than $40k. How about a new steering wheel for the Camaro? Let's focus on that. Oh yeah, why don't they worry about how Nissan's plug-in will only cost $25k???

Will this one have a 60-day money back guarantee as well?

What's wrong with the LS9 as a crate engine? Does it seriously not have enough hp for the builders out there?

I didn't watch the video. Is it a new 3800 Series III?

GM has so many really good crate motors right now ...
... I'm curious to see what's coming that would be worthy of a touch of hype.
I can see how some people wouldn't care though. Judging by the number of people on this board that can't even do basic maintenance, the thought of swapping in a crate motor must be truly frightning.

Firstwagon, myself and 2 friends removed the original drivetrain (engine, transmission, ECU, axles ETC ETC) from my 95 Civic EX sedan, installed the drivetrain from a wrecked 94 Integra GS-R and had the car up and running in less than 6 hours.

Nice work hondacura4. Of course my comment doesn't apply to everyone.
Toughest one I did was a Ford MPI 5.0 V8 into a 90 Jeep YJ (orig 2.5 TBI) keeping it emmissions legal and everything working.
Took more then 6 hours.
Easiest was a small block into my 81 Chevy Malibu 2 door to replace a blown 229 V6. V8 was delivered at noon and my brother and I tested drove the car before supper (needed it to drive to work the next day).

Firstwagon, I've gained a whole new level of respect for you. How did the 5.0 work in the YJ. I have a TJ and I've thought about how nice a 347 would work in place of my 4.0. How did the ford transmission link to the NP231? Also did you stick with the stock Dana 30s?

5.0 works great in the Jeep. Totally changes the feel and character. The Jeep belongs to my brother and he's driven it with the 5.0 for more then a year now. After a decade with the 2.5 he loves it.
We went with a NP435 trans (for the granny low) and 205 transfer case.
Still using the Dana 30 axles. with 33 inch tires and no locker (removed the lunchbox locker) they have held up fine so far. He has a dana 44 to put in when we find a suitable front axle to go with it.
V8 was from a 95 F150 but should have used a Mustang engine. Lots more info on the web about wiring and the lower manifold fits better.
