No surprise here: Professional racer and retired GM engineer, John Heinricy posted the day's fastest lap at 2:46:560.
This knowledge is useful mostly for getting an idea of how fast a CTS-V is capable of running here at Monticello. Do not, however, compare that lap time (nor that of the other GM ringer), to the laps posted by the privately owned BMWs, Jag and Audi. Those were more-or-less average guys that happen to own fast cars, not professional drivers.

Im Calling this a Huge win for the Boy Racer in the M3. He was only beaten by "Professional Drivers" and by only roughly 4 sec! Wow big time FAIL for GM and the CTS-V. Lets let one of BMW's drivers at it and see where the chips fall. Bet it would smoke the 2.46.560 posted today.

Ok, this whole event is rediculous. How biased. Let's have some professional drivers see if any Joe Schmoe can beat them???
The GM ringers should be ashamed that some young whippersnapper kept it close in an M3 that his parents purchased for him for his 21st birthday.

Actually, I'm impressed that mature, retired dudes driving a heavier and larger car can serve it up to the young boys so well. Maybe that young guy could have gone faster if he had piloted the CTS-V. Lutz reminds me of that old Nascar racer, Harry Gant. Drove an Oldsmobile and at 55 was regularly whipping boys half his age!
All in all, looks like it was a fun day, and the CTS-V still proves to be a mighty beast!

So whats the conclusion of all this? Cadillac got like 4 shots at the lap. everyone else got 1. I can see that this was a fun track day for all the people involved, but I'm not sure if it convinces me that the CTS-V is by default "the best." Something tells me that if BMW wanted to do a "M3 challenge" they would win it.
Still good races. CTS-V is a good car so is the M3, perhaps the new M5 would do better at the track. A genuine congrats to Lutz as he didn't come last or break his neck as old as he is.

CTS-V is a very respectable car...I'm a little suspect of the "young kid" from LI. Something tells me there is more to his background than what he cares to admit. Not taking anything from him...he still is a good driver to post those numbers...but to come within 5 secs of a professional with a more powerful car?!? Maybe he is the 1 in a million with natural talent...in my opinion...there is more to his story. I think BMW...or GM for that matter might wanna give him a call.

Caddy won. Good for them.
What does it mean? Not much. The CTS-V is a hell of a car, but this race doesn't result in much of anything. Perhaps just a day of fun for the boys.
