Cadillac CTS-V Challenge: BMW Takes Early Lead

M3 kid 717.jpg

The timed laps have begun here at Monticello and the fastest lap of the first session of three cars goes to not the journalist-driven CTS-V or, predictably, the Jaguar XF, but to the BMW M3 driven by owner Michael Cooper of Long Island.

Cooper, who has had all of five years with a driver's license laid down an impressive 2:50:424. The CTS-V automatic driven by Jack Baruth of thetruthaboutcars.com recorded a best lap of 2:51:153. The Jag pulled up the rear at 3:15:670.

Nice work by the young Mr. Cooper. Three more heats to go, including the heavy-hitter fourth heat.

Now here's a young guy that deserves that car.

are those fleet escalades in the background? lutz best watch out for the greenies if they are. travelling to a racecourse in gas guzzling suv's and then driving in the least fuel efficient manner just to manipulate a claim he made. somewhere, obama is frowning on him.

I guess that Jag isn't a track car. One ponders how the XFR would have done.

An automatic CTS? Lame. A manual CTS should be able to reel in the M3.

Congrats to the young Cooper. Impressive driving skill. At least he seems competent in that M3 (more than I can say for some other people I've seen on the road).

I suspect that The Chosen One's car czars and eco-nazis will make sure that Gubmint Motors doesn't engage in this sort of environmentally unfriendly conduct ever again.
There's no telling how many polar bears, snail darters and spotted owls were endangered by this event.

2 hours 50 mins 424 secs per lap? That's not very good! ;-)

CTS did it in 2:48.

The constant need to log in here is annoying. Can it be fixed?

I don't need to log in constantly. Anyway, what sort of background does the kid have? Any racing experience?

I have to log in once every 24 hours.

I agree that the kid's time is darn impressive. As I post this all groups have driven and the pro's just barely beat the kid.

Interesting that the Evo, a car a poster on a previous ebtry thought would embarass the CTS-V posted one of the slowest times. It appears that, at least on this track, horsepower trumps AWD.

The EVO cannot keep up with these cars. It posts great test numbers for magazines but that doesn't mean its ready for the track. If I remember correctly it couldnt even beat the Cobalt SS in C&D's lightning lap.

Obama frowning on him? He will probably jump on Air Force One just to tell them they are not being green, he uses any excuse to take a ride on that plane.

Altimadude, an automatic CTS-V I believe is faster vs the manual. Driving skills were the key ingredient here not transmissions.
