Aptera has resubmitted its application for federal loan money after the Obama administration extended its Advanced Technology Vehicles program to include three-wheeled vehicles. The Aptera 2e is a lightweight, electric vehicle that is expected to sell for around $25,000. The company plans to start producing the vehicle next year if it can secure an additional $75 million from the government.

Why not. Unlike Fiskar these guys have proven that they can build their vehicle and sell it for a price that regular people can afford.
The Aptera seems to make far more sense than the Mini E does for a LOT less money.

I'm not sure how it's makes more sense then the MiniE. They both seat 2 people, go about the same distance and speed and neither holds much cargo.
The Aptera might be cheaper but it's only a guess so far as the car is not available to buy. The next gen MiniE will likely be cheaper too.
The MiniE also has proven it meets crash test standards. The Aptere skips around them by pretending to be a motorcycle (whick it clearly is not). I'm sure BMW would love to just say their cars pass on the computer rather having to test actual cars. Sure would save a lot of time and money.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a clever car and it will be cool to see them on the road. I just think all car companies should play by the same rules.

Why not apply for a loan that you never have to pay back? And everybody's doing it, so why not join the crowd?

If golf carts can get subsidies, why not electric cars? Free money for everyone!
