2011 Acura TSX Sport Wagon To Join Lineup Next Fall

accord-tourer-f34-717.jpgAcura has officially announced that it will add a Sport Wagon version of the TSX sedan to its lineup next fall. Already on sale in other markets as the Accord Touring, the TSX Sport Wagon will likely get all the same specs as the current sedan. Acura says it will provide further details as the on sale date gets closer.

So if you want an accord wagon you have to pony up for luxury bells and whistles. That's a sharp looking car, for sure, but I wish they'd offer it a bit down-market.

I suppose it's a bit subjective, but this wagon looks a hell of a lot better than the crosstour (which you can't get in base trim, either).

Nice! Finally they are offering it in the USA.

cr_driver says:

Of course it looks better than the crosstour. More upscale yes it has to be, its an acura. But so far price and detailed equipment is only speculation.

cruiserhead1 says:

Nice! Finally, they bring the Accord wagon here.
Wonder what the price point will be? If they try to put it up against the A4 wagon, they are in serious trouble.

I'd like to have this with the I4/6MT or the canceled I-DTEC diesel/6MT combo.

@dwhamman That's a sharp looking car now but wait until it gets the Acura bucktoothed treatment.

This is one of the few good moves honda/acura made in a long while. Good for them. For once we can get a wagen that is not a subie, volvo, or volkswagen (both are ugly and Subie doesn't make wagens anymore). There is the CTS and 5 series wagen, but they are quite a bit up market. This, hopefully will make a good competitor to the A4 advant (4 cyl sports wagen).

cruiserhead1 says:

10:39 AM, 10/28/09

Oh man, I'll take a A4 AVANT over the bucktooth-wagon any day! Just sit in both!
Hopefully it will be a few thousand under and allow Honda to bring more wagons into our market.

CTS is a good reminder. I keep forgetting about Caddy!

heavysixer says:

11:01 AM, 10/28/09

This is great news. I was driving to work just this morning in my 2004 WRX wagon, dreaming of a TSX wagon. And here it is! The bucktooth can always be "pulled" and painted or replaced. The TSX wagon is a really attractive package for me. Thanks Honda!

audisport says:

11:39 AM, 10/28/09

The TSX wagon will be waaaay less expensive then the A4 Avant. It'll be less than $40k loaded.

And while Honda has made Acura as a whole look TERRIBLE, the TSX has been left alone, which is a good thing. The TL makes me throw up in my mouth everytime I see it.

Looks like a nice wagon, too bad they axed the diesel, or I would consider one.

altimadude00 says:

I'll take one of these over a CTS wagon any day!

TPAWRX says:

11:57 AM, 10/28/09

See now there is a nice looking wagon. In comparison to other decent looking wagons on the market, the CTS wagon looks better in pictures then it does in person. And the new A4 wagon looks kinda ugly, especially when compared to the design of the last model cycle. Audi should bring back the S4 Avant to improve on it's looks and performance.

drama_j says:

Wow, If that isn't a Knock Off of the Toyota Venza I dunno what is. Looks like Honda Motors is following in Toyotas foot steps. First trying to mimic the Prius with the Insite, which is a failure Again!, Now with the wagon.

carguy622 says:

12:34 PM, 10/28/09

Please people buy lots of these. I'm in no position to buy a new car, so I'm depending on other people to move the wagons and keep the manufacturers interested.

frazier500 says:

12:38 PM, 10/28/09

LOL Drama_J are you blind? It's a rip of off the TSX sedan haha

petrolhead85 says:

12:49 PM, 10/28/09

I like! I just hope and pray that it sells well enough to justify bringing it over to North America.

audisport says:

01:16 PM, 10/28/09

@drama_j- The Honda Accord( TSX) wagon was designed before the Venza was. And they don't look similar at all. The Venza isn't edgy at all and is larger.

yellowmiata says:

01:23 PM, 10/28/09

I like it, hopefully the bucktoothyness won't be too abrupt. Still, I'm drawn to the Subies for wagons & utility. The diesel would have absolutely set it apart - perhaps too much for the average boring American consumer?

zoomzoomn says:

01:45 PM, 10/28/09

I like this. The TSX is the only newer Acura that is not Fugly!

jederino says:

01:47 PM, 10/28/09

I like it, and am in the market for a wagon in the next year. However, the diesel option would have really set this apart.

bodyblue says:

01:51 PM, 10/28/09

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz somebody wake me when the actually sell one. Acura is barely selling any cars in the US as it is......now they make something in an unpopular body style....What marketing.

mrryte says:

01:54 PM, 10/28/09

Let's see here: the Honda Accord Tourer will be sold here in the US as an ACURA yet Honda plans on selling the funky-looking Crosstour.....

Does anyone else see this as bass-ackwards?

carlisimo says:

02:16 PM, 10/28/09

This will be high on my list in the next couple of years. But if I get one I’ll definitely order a world model Honda grille, and maybe Honda badges for the rest of the car too. I’ve never been a fan of alphanumeric names either, so I’ll go all the way and get an Accord badge for the back. Still not as good looking as the previous generation, but good enough.

hondacura4 says:

03:44 PM, 10/28/09

"Wow, If that isn't a Knock Off of the Toyota Venza I dunno what is"

Drama_J, this wagon was developed, designed and on the market before the Venza. It just wasn't available for U.S. consumption at the time.

As far as looks, I don't know what you're looking at as the TSX wagon looks nothing like a Venza.

"Hopefully it will be a few thousand under and allow Honda to bring more wagons into our market."

Cruiser, in usual Acura fashion, the TSX wagon will have many more standard features, is larger and will be cheaper than its German competition.

As far as engines are concerned I know the 2.4L will be offered but I'm unsure about the new V6 option. Unfortunately, the 5AT/diesel was too expensive to certify for U.S. consumption as only the 6MT/diesel was able to pass the certification process. I would have liked the i-DTEC diesel/6MT combo for myself.

Best decision ever made by Honda! I predict the next wagon to pop up will be the Mazda 6 wagon.

kurtamaxxxguy says:

04:22 PM, 10/28/09

If they make decent AWD available it could be a nice step up from the Forester, though it's more wagon than CUV.
However, we only have one Acura dealer here in Portland, OR, the same situation as Audi. :-(

dgalliher says:

04:54 PM, 10/28/09

HondaAcura4, if you have any insider info, do you know if the 6MT will be available? This WILL be my next car if they offer the 6MT and Tech package on the same vehicle.

eclogite says:

07:36 PM, 10/28/09

Nice! I like it. Can't wait for more info.

hondacura4 says:

08:42 PM, 10/28/09

Dgalliher, although I yet to hear anything solid, I assume the wagon will be available with the same drivetrain options as the TSX sedan:

- 5AT/2.4L 4cyl

- 6MT/2.4L 4cyl

- 5AT/3.5L 6cyl

It also should have the same feature set as the sedan, that being base model and the tech package.

"Best decision ever made by Honda! I predict the next wagon to pop up will be the Mazda 6 wagon."

*raises eyebrow* best decision? I'm guessing this will sell in such small volumes that it will be discontinued before too long. Everyone claims they want a wagon, no one actually buys a wagon. This has been proven time and time again.

questionlp says:

@kurtamaxxxguy

I think there are two Acura dealerships in the Portland metro area, westside (Canyon) and eastside (Stark). It does kind of stink that there is only one Audi dealership in the area, else it's a trek up to Seattle or east to Bend.

Doug, you are so right. It sounds like the only ones they will sell are to people on this blog. Acura is barely holding on in the US.

Everyone always say Americans don’t like station wagons. I think they are wrong. I love them for their versatility, ride, comfort and possible mpg vs. the other options. I have a wife, 4 kids and a dog. I am basically FORCED into a minivan. I don’t like SUV for a lot of reasons. Mainly because, they are NOT sporty, they don’t offer any more Utility over a wagon or minivan. They don’t have very good handling characteristics, they get horrible gas mileage. I don’t understand the love affair. The minivan has some of the same unwanted attributes. To me the ideal car for a family is a wagon. Unfortunately, nobody makes an appropriate wagon. The domestic car companies abandon them for whatever reason and the only ones available are foreign. The foreign ones are all to small or to expensive. So, here is my idea of the appropriate wagon. It has to be large enough to have 3+3+3 seating and when you fold the back seats down, it has to be able to carry a standard size building material 4X8 sheet of dry wall. It has to have a tailgate (not a hatch) that folds Down and a tailwindow that folds up. It has to be have a sporty independent suspension (ideally like the the Lotus Elise, but probably like the Mazda6). Have it come standard with an economical 2-liter engine that may or may not have turbo charging, but will do 60 in the mid 9 range and get 24 city, 34 highway mileage (maybe a diesel). Optional larger engine. Also equipped with 4 wheel disc brakes, ABS, Traction and or Electronic Stability control, and all the necessary airbags to protect my kids. List price has to be under $18k. The closest thing out there was the Mazda6 that they discontinued. Problem with the 6 was it came with all the bells and whistles and was not available in an economy level. The VW Jetta is too expensive. They both were too small (why do they always make the wagon version of a car shorter than the sedan version, very counter intuitive) Okay, too long, you get the idea!

Now this is what I am talking about. This is a far better looking vehicle than the Accord Cross-tour that will soon be for sale. Acura TSX performance with a knapsack, great concept! This will be some serious competition for the BMW 3 series wagon that offers less space, and less power. Plus, it should come without a BMW pricetag. Lets hope it handles like one though. This could be the wagon for someone who is stepping up from that Civic Si into something more practical, without having to give up on sporty performance. Nice job Honda.

Finally! The perfect car for me. I currently own a 2002 Forester but also own a 2003 S2000 and just got rid of a 1996 Civic Coupe 5spd. I really wanted a GSR or RSX for a daily driver but my 2 greyhounds would be very cramped so the Forester has stayed. My ideal car would be a wagon with the RSX Type-S or TSX drivetrain with a 6 spd, would be 3000 lbs and get at least 30 mpg hwy. I love the Honda manuals as they are some of the best in the business. For those who do not think wagons sell I would say look around at all the Outbacks and Mazda 3's. I think people are realizing these are the perfect alternative to heavy, slow and thirsty SUV's and crossovers. A wagon with ~ 220 hp that handles well and is fun to drive is what I want. Currently the only car that gets close is the Mazda 3. The Jetta TDI wagon or A3 would be another option but I am not as big a VW fan as I am a Honda fan. DO IT HONDA!!

hondaman1 says:

06:41 PM, 11/ 6/09

"NotABigDeal," Audi doesnt make any vehicles named the "ADvant." The name is AVANT. Additionally, wagon is spelled, W-A-G-O-N.

Anyway, I just wonder if people who buy a TSX would feel like their car is being devalued if its being sold elsewhere as an Accord? Also, Acura needs to seriously abandon that so called "Power Plenum" look and get a more attractive front grill design.

hondaman1 says:

06:50 PM, 11/ 6/09

I think Honda needs to seriously expand the Acura brand. They need to bring back the NSX,the Vigor and seriously upgrade the RL to compete with the Lexus LS 460, BMW 5 and 7 series and Mercedes E and maybe even S class. The MDX needs a bit more attention, the interior needs to be much larger, and they need to redesign the rear roof line, as the rear curvature limits room in the third row and cargo area. Acura has a lot of work to do. They are in a similiar situation as Infiniti was in a few years ago. Honda needs to bring back the PRELUDE also.

hondaman1 says:

06:58 PM, 11/ 6/09

The TSX really is a beautiful car. I have a 2009 model. I hope Honda tunes the new TSX V-6 model some more in the future to compete with the BMW M3. Acura really needs a 4 door High performance sedan right now to get some momentum and attract more people, especially young people to the brand. If they could tune a TSX to match the performance of a Mitsubishi EVO then they would have been successful. I think that is exactly what they need to do, and they need to bring back the NSX.

chasman says:

11:53 AM, 02/20/10

I'm very pleased with Acura's decision to finally bring the Euro Accord wagon to the USA. Honda discontinued the previous US Accord wagon in 1997 - 13 years ago. 1996 was the last year for Camry wagon and the Subaru FWD Legacy wagon. 2005 was the last year for the Mazda6 Sport Wagon. Thus, there may now be sufficient pent up demand for "... vehicles that blend practicality, better fuel-efficiency, and increased driving enjoyment in the process." - http://blogs.consumerreports.org/cars/2007/08/wagon-legacy-en.html#

Hopefully:

1. This sport wagon will come standard with a 6-speed MT where the 6th gear is a true OD to lower hwy RPMs for better MPG and reduced engine noise.
2. One can purchase a leather interior without having to also buy a sunroof.
3. It will have multi-way adjustable seats for both front passengers.
4. This FWD sport wagon will also offer a LSD similar to the Honda Civic Si, Mazdaspeed3, and Mini Cooper & Clubman.

puck2u says:

Honda finally managed to make a sharp wagon in Europe. The first two iterations were far from a decent design effort. This one hits the spot. Probably go beyond my needs. Don't want leather or navigation but I do want a factory sunroof. After the lousy designed Crosstour came out I looked and hoped it would look better than the pictures. Looks worse plus all the crap on it that gets used once a year left me going out the door. I'm Honda centric but not this one. The current "fleet" includes a '88 CRX Si, '89 4wheel drive Civic Wagon, '92 Accord wagon and '05 Odyssey plus several Hondas in between. My wife will probably use her '92 wagon in place of a casket as I will the CRX. We have dogs that compete so we have to haul more crap, crud and corruption than Jon and Kate Plus Eight. The Odyssey handles extremely well for a mini-van and Odyssey's are smaller than our last conversion van but it still feels too big. Looked at a CTS wagon which I really liked until it came to the price. Just will not put that much into a dog hauler. Bring on a rational TSX wagon. I think it would become part of our fleet even with nearest dealer some 110 miles from home.
