Leaked: Horsepower and Torque for Ford's New 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8

2011-ford-powerstroke-diesel-V8-blog.jpgEarlier this week, Ford issued a press release on the 2011 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 that will be used in the 2011 F-Series Super Duty pickups. Included was a comprehensive overview of the engine, but the engine's power and torque ratings remained a secret.

That is, until we put the screws to sources close to the project. After many hours of waterboarding, we now know, unofficially, that the official power ratings will be 400 horsepower and 725 pound-feet of torque. As the current 6.4-liter V8 generates 350 hp and 650 lb-ft, the new 6.7 represents a pretty healthy upward jump.

I second that

Any truck with that engine deserves a pair of welded-together nuts hanging from the rear bumper.

So they increase displacement and get more bhp and torques?

They increase the displacement, horsepower and torque

BUT the engine has same mounting and is same size as the outgoing 6.4-liter.

AND it uses less fuel to accive those impressive numbers. It´s also much cleaner than the old 6.4-litre

But will it be reliable? I've heard that the 6.4L was considerably better than the 6.0L, but that's not saying much. This powertrain is more important to Ford than most people could realize. The impacommercial sales for Ford is huge and they lost ground BIG TIME with all of the 6.0L woes. Fingers crossed on this one.

Not sure if it will be more reliable, but there's no partnership with Navistar to worry about this time. Generally, if it's like any of Ford's most recent products, it'll be just fine

Will it fit in a Miata?

Hope the transmission will hold up the amount of torque and HP.

"Put it in a Mustang."

Reminds me of Teen Wolf.

It's only too bad how ugly they made their superduty trucks with the last restyle.

^I second that - the front end on those things is hideous.

Thirsty, thirsty, very thirsty !!! If Ford can use a 4 Litre or a 5 Litre V-6 of Inline 6 to produce a about 400hp and about 500 lb,ft of torque is enough for most pulling item that average people wants to pull. If anything is above these pulling power than drive a Big Rig. Diesel should be make for fuel efficient and pulling power.

^ they have a model of truck for people like you, atenza. It's called the F-150. Now if you really need to carry a heavy payload like a pile of concrete or tow something heavy, then you need this. And don't say that a big rig would be better, because I'm sure this truck is more fuel efficient than a big rig.

I may be the only one, but I'd love to see Ford re-introduce the Excursion with the updates the SD truck platform has enjoyed as well as with this powertrain. Granted they wouldn't sell all that many, but I'd bet there's 15-25000 boat, Airstream and horse trailer owners out there that appreciate the security and comfort of an SUV with the capability and durability the SD platform offers. Plus, Chevy has about abanonded the HD Suburban owners market by refusing to update the 2500 platform, instead plopping the new sheetmetal over the old platform. Perhaps a name change would be in order as Excursion was most commonly linked with the Exxon Valdez, but take a look at how much a 2003 with 100k miles is worth to verify that there is a small but vaible community out there that will pay for it.

I agree with wjtinatl comment on the Excursion. We have our fifth child due in a couple of months and love the room and power in our 2004 Excursion Power Stroke. We have 110,000 miles on it and not sure what we will do when it hits 200. The suburban sucks, it is to little for a family, as the third row seat sucks and no leg room for a child. I am sure Obama will fix that with Government Motors. We pull a large camper and need a diesel to do it. As for atenza94546 comments, you are an idiot. If you want to pull a little boat, small camper, or other small loads go with a F-150, but reading your post maybe a splash. Fur us who pull real loads, we need lots of power. Plus I bet it will get as good if not better mileage than a F-150. Sorry to be blunt, but I call it how it is. Good Day.

Hey Einstein,(A.K.A. atenza94546)folks like alandean777, myself and many others or all don't go out and spend 50-60k on a big bad diesel just to say look at me, thats what sports/luxury cars are for. We spend that big money on these vehicles because we NEED them, either for everyday use or weekly use. Before all the new emissions B.S. these trucks were getting 20 plus mpg, not to shabby for a 8k lbs. 4x4 truck and they run forever. All I wanted to do was read a little bit on the new SD and I had to read that post. I'm done for now.
