Although that car's probably not worth much, and most won't care, it still seems a waste of a vehicle that apparently has some life left in it. Doesn't appear to have much rust either.

No matter how much I like the cars I have or others I'll have in the future, I wouldn't want to see them destroyed by getting buried. They certainly can't benefit me by that time...

People often ask me if I'm ever going to sell my car (it's 8 years old). I always reply "Nope. I'm gonna be buried in my car...one way or another."

I wonder if the car was drained of its fluids.

Uhm, cwc1, if you looked carefully you saw the tag expired in 1990. It might not be in the best running condition if it hadn't been driven in 19 years. Yeah, we have a lot of expired tags in South Carolina but I'm thinking in 19 years he might have gotten caught.

OK, according to the WAGT/NBC-Augusta site, his sister said she "didn't like him driving it, because he couldn't half drive." So maybe that was just a plate he saved. Saluda County's tax records aren't online so no way to tell for sure if it had recently been registered. The "Saluda Standard-Sentinel" said that the engine, transmission, and gas tank were all removed prior to burial.

Why spend money on a casket when you've got a fully-paid for car? Although, I imagine any money he would have saved got eaten up by the prep-work on the car and digging that ginormous hole - not to mention the special hoist needed to lift the package into the hole.

Oh, and if you read the original story, all the guns he owned were placed in the trunk of the car for burial as well, apparently so they didn't fall into the 'wrong hands'.

I wonder if you have to buy 2 grave sites for this.
