Toyota announced pricing on the 2010 4Runner today. A base, two-wheel-drive SR5 version with the new 157-horsepower 2.7 inline-4 starts at $27,500, plus an $800 destination charge. It will show up at dealers in January.
The V6 4Runners will get there a lot quicker -- in late October or early November, depending on where you live. A 2WD 4Runner SR5 just slips in under 30 grand with a base price of $29,975. It goes up to $31,715 with four-wheel drive.
A mid-range, four-wheel-drive Trail Grade model like the one we tested will start at $36,500 (you can't get a 2WD Trail Grade). The top-of-the-line 2010 Toyota 4Runner Limited will cost you $38,565 in 2WD and $40,600 in 4WD.

Looks good in limited trim, but only a crazy person would spend 40 grand on this. The V6 SR5 will sell well though.

It shares some styling queues with the GMC Terrain, but doesn't pull it off as well. Costs more too (no, I haven't done an apples v apples of features).

this thing is really fugly in city trim.
The Trail tirm with 2-tone blacked out unpainted lower parts look much better than this city slicker 4-cylinder pretender junk.

I like the way it looks. But if I were in that market I would never look at one. The New Jeep Grand Cherokee looks twice as good. More capable with a better (though less fuel efficient) V6 too.

In my opinion, i think Toyota has went too much with the styling. It's too much "American". Toyota should seriously design their vehicles more Japanese like style. Like most of the Lexus are designed by Japanese and they look great in my perspective. Except for the RX. I don't know who designed that. That SUV looks horrible.

i hate it the Asians should just stick with what they are slowly loosing at, that's crossovers... this is one segment the the ford explorer has dominated or nearly two decades and don't seem like its letting up, although it actually could sell good because it will be one of the last body-on-frame midsized Utes in 2011 but still a four cylinder that's less powerful then the one in the camery not good your gonna get the same fuel in the city as the v6 cause your gonna have to floor it to move five feet........bad choices Toyota maybe you should be like Hyundai and just copy off of everyone instead of inventing crap like this

That's a big 4-banger.

@Fordfrenzy:
The Ford explorer WAS selling well.
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Extra/ToyotaPriusSalesPassFordExplorer.aspx
In 2007, the demand for Explorers was less than 1/3 of the 2000 peak sales (according to MSN money central).
Demand for the midsize SUV segment has declined considerably since 2002.

A four cylinder motor of that displacement is likely going to have some NVH issues, even with the typical measures taken to reduce them.
It sure is a bit awkward looking, as an understatement.

That 4-banger doesn't displace much more than the Fusion or Camery 4-banger. Less powerful than the Ford though. ;)

Yeah Fordfrenzy, the Explorer hasn't been leading 'anything' in quite some time. It was the king...back in the 90's. But lately, as inlinesix pointed out, even the POS Prius (for it's driving experence, not the whole environmental thing) beats it.

The 2.7-liter 1AR-FE makes:
Toyota Venza, 182 hp, 182 lb·ft
Toyota Highlander, 187 hp, 186 lb·ft
I wonder why so oddly tuned in the 4Runner.
anyways the new 2010 4Runner web site is up with only the V6.

I hope the I4 version never arrives. If it isn't 4WD and rock crawling it shouldn't be made. Buy a Rav4 or a Highlander or a Venza instead.

The 4-banger probably is tuned for more low end torque for those rare offroading situations the 4-banger is likely to see

there are thousands of junior high kids doodling rice rockets in the margins of their algebra books at this very moment who could design a better looking car then anything toyota has put out in the last 10 years.
i hope they don't pay their artists much. or maybe they need to start paying them more.
