2010 Honda Accord Crosstour: Official Photos and Design Comments

2010_Honda_Accord_Crosstour_1.jpg

Honda posted the only two official photos of the 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour today after teasing detail shots of the car on Facebook last week. Of course, we showed you spy shots of the Crosstour in early July.

We still don't have any official specs on the car, but we expect those will come on October 6 when Honda plans to release more information and, likely, pricing on the 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour.

Today, Erik Berkman, vice president for American Honda, reflected on the Crosstour's purpose and design, calling it "a modern interpretation of a CUV that integrates the refinement and efficiency of a premium sedan.

"We know SUV buyers like the commanding view of the road that comes with a high eye-point and like the comforts of living with an SUV," he said. "This vehicle meets the needs of buyers looking for those attributes yet at the same time want an image that is different from a conventional SUV."

So it's the perfect rival for the Toyota Venza then. And that begs the question: Which one would you take -- Accord Crosstour or Venza?

Crosstour, Venza... same thing, really. Flip a coin.

It is growing on me, but it still doesn't offer the car-like stance and square cargo area of a proper wagon (sloping roofline is a big turn-off for me) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Cadillac sells enough CTS wagons that I can find a used one without too much trouble a few years from now.

Outback too...

Subaru of America's Dave Sullivan, at the Outback press launch in Washington state last month (@ ~ 30:02 0f video below), stated the that the Crosstour is indeed a car that will be cross-shopped against the all-new Outback.

So I'd say a comparison test between the Crosstour and the new Outback seems like a no-brainer.

I love Honda, but this is simply an awful looking vehicle.

The Venza. I want toknow who is approving these designs. This looks terrible.

carguy622 says:

If I had to take one it would be the Venza. Without that terrible front end I don't think it would look bad.

I liked Hondas better when they were boring.

brn says:

Is it OK if I just call it a hatchback?

Good.

zc1 says:

I prefer the Venza to this...didn't like the ZDX, either.

bankerdanny says:

I actually think the Venza is a very handsome car that I would be happy to own. Unfortunately I don't feel that way about this car, of the BMW 5GT.

shaddai says:

The Venza doesn't look half bad. This thing... ugh. Honda is continuing with it's ugly stick styling... TL, TSX, this thing... ugh.

hondacura4 says:

Its not as bad as I thought it would be but I still don't like the overall styling.

Venza or CrossTour, Id have to take the exterior of the Venza with the chassis and suspension of the Honda.

jschaffer180 says:

I used to love Honda, but in all honesty they have not made a single attractive/desirable car in the last few years. Maybe I need to see this in person but the proportions just seem off.

billt9 says:

The Venza looks like a beauty next to this wtf thingy.

Me no likey.

estreka says:

Outback or an older WRX wagon.

roar02ram says:

This is hideous. I think the camo actually made it look better.

"I liked Hondas better when they were boring."

It's interesting to me that when Honda tries to deviate from its normally conservative styling, the result is usually not quite successful. The latest Acuras and Hondas, with the exception of the Civic coupe, are just too odd.

The NSX - now that was a great looking car in its time.

Can't they just give us a hatchback accord? Or do Americans have some strange need to sit uselessly high above the road.

tib2006 says:

The Accord crosstour...lets see, looks like they took a Hyundai Veracruz and a Toyota Venza and crossed them, hence the "cross" in the name. The front grill looks like it belongs on a Ford F-150, not a Honda Accord. Given the year 2010(typically mid-life for most Hondas, the current Accord was new in 2008), it seems that this is the side of the Accord that is having some sort of identity crisis in its midlife. While I won't argue that this could be a very useful vehicle, I can't help but feel that Honda seems to be trying to fill voids in its vehicle lineup. Furthermore, I also think that Honda needs to be more adventerous with its new products rather than copying Toyota (or Hyundai for that matter). How about the return of the Prelude? How about finding some more power for the Civic Si? Now there is a thought. How about a four-door coupe version of the Accord? (i.e. VW Passat CC). I hate to say it, but this vehicle gives Honda fans one more reason to mourn the death of the S2000, and the Acura NSX while I am on the subject. I just hope that the glory days at Honda are not completely gone. I rest my case.

nice car! beautifully executed!

redgeminipa says:

Not bad, but the front end seems a bit, uh... BIG.

bayoujay says:

I've also been a Honda fan (own a Fit and owned a Civic hatch), but I agree that lately their design direction, starting with silver Fangface-like mugs on recent Acuras, has left me scratching my head. Maybe it's just me, but the design of the latest Accord still leaves me feeling like its an evolution of the previous generation Hyundai Sonata than the previous generation Accord. The Crosstour is a real disappointment visually.

zoomzoomn says:

It would seem that the manufacturers are destined to push hatchbacks onto us! I'm not oppossed, though many Americans still don't appreciate the utility a sleeker sedan based hatch brings to daily life. I'm just not sure how ready Americans are to plop down their hard earned cash and recieve one of these models into their lives.

1487 says:

06:14 AM, 09/ 2/09

Unsightly to say the least. Why is Honda too arrogant to hire good designers from Audi/VW or GM? I don't get it.

dougtheeng says:

07:00 AM, 09/ 2/09

Hideous. The Venza has grown on me but I can't see this doing the same.

top_hat says:

08:12 AM, 09/ 2/09

The styling is definately not good.the Venza's styling is better and it has more practicality with the wagon back. I appreciate a hatchback, but not one that sits up this high and has ugly nose syndrome. It seems like this must have been designed a few years ago when the whole SUV thing was hot and gas prices hadn't spiked. It will be interestign to see what the driving dynamics and gas milage are like.

sgude says:

08:26 AM, 09/ 2/09

Yikes -- it looks like a bloated EX35 in the way an athlete looks when he's drunk all the time and gained 50 pounds because all he does now is watch TV.

stephen987 says:

12:05 PM, 09/ 2/09

Bloody awful. From that front quarter view, it looks like an Azera rear-ended a Sebring.

The Venza's no masterpiece, by any means, but at least it looks like the whole vehicle was designed by people who were on speaking terms with each other.

Which one would I buy? You gotta be kidding. I wouldn't even be seen RENTING either one.

kingkhalas says:

02:43 PM, 09/ 2/09

Does bad economy mean bad styling?

4g63 says:

03:12 PM, 09/ 2/09

american honda's designer has gone out of control... i'll take the venza thanks.

eric808 says:

08:01 PM, 09/ 2/09

Things augly as hell. What kind of an idiot would actually want to buy this? For me, if I had to choose a car thats similar to this, then it'll be either the Toyota Venza or the BMW X6.

arkangyl says:

10:26 PM, 09/ 7/09

I actually think it looks rather cool. I think the new accord looks way, way worse. The Venza looks worse too. I like how long the hood looks, even if it isn't that long. One of the worst designs on the road, I think, is the Nissan Maxima. The Crosstour is OK by me. Of course, it does have a stupid name.
