At a show that includes the Audi e-Tron, an electric sports car apparently capable of sub-5-second 0-60 runs, not to mention plug-in hybrids from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Porsche needed to say something about its commitment to building its own fabulously green car.
And so Michael Macht, the company's new president and CEO (after the firing of Wende Wiedeking in the tussle with VW), announced that Porsche is working on an electric-powered sports car. Current battery technology has too many limitations (weight, packaging) for such an application, he noted, but Porsche engineers are working on it.
"An electric sports car would therefore only make sense for Porsche if it offers performance and a cruising range similar to that of current sports cars in the market," he said. "We are therefore taking the first step in this direction with a full hybrid -- in the Cayenne, the Panamera and maybe in the not-too-distant future also in a racing car or a production 911. Why not?"

If they can make a e-boxter that handles like an boxter, that is just as fast as a boxter, with the range of a boxter sure go ahead. Something tells me it wont.

*sigh* How about Porsche just make a hybrid Cayenne instead? Everyone knows it's a fake Porsche already anyway.
