2009 Frankfurt Auto Show: 2011 Bentley Mulsanne

Bentley unveiled its new monster-size sedan earlier this summer at the Pebble Beach concours, presumably because it meant that the company could pretend it was already a classic. Or possibly because the crowd at Pebble Beach is probably a bit more likely to be capable of purchasing this beast.

Whatever the case, we're still having as much trouble warming to the front of the car after seeing it up close and personal here on the show floor.

While we work on that, make the jump to read a rundown of the just-released details on the 2011 Mulsanne and a photo gallery.

Here are some pertinent numbers for the Bentley flagship. All are suitably large.

- The optional wheels are 21 inches across.
- The stereo amplifier pumps out 2,200 watts.
- There are 20 custom-built speakers.
- It takes 170 hours to craft a Mulsanne interior, 15 of which are devoted to stitching leather on the wheel.
- The V8 engine displaces 6.75 liters (an update of the existing motor that includes cylinder deactivation).
- That engine makes 505 horsepower and 752 pound-feet of torque.
- The transmission has eight speeds.
- The price? High.

I have more trouble with that character line that runs over the rear fender. I looks out of place.

So... RWD, or AWD like the smaller Bentley Continental?

I like it. It looks like a bently. Wonder how this will compete with the Ghost.

i agree with you Carguy, it looks like it is influenced by the Dodge Charger of all things. The side is very generic, uninspired slab sided...

I miss the upright, all business-like freight train stance the old Turbo-R--Arnages had. This is a little to laid back

Still not liking the Avanti-esque front end. Nice car overall, though.

me too, notabigdeal. I really like this and the new Ghost, too bad I don't have that kind of $$$, LOL.

I like the gatling gun LED headlights but the front fasica is too plain. Reminds me of the Ford Thunderbird- nice idea but no attention to detail.

Dig it! What a car.

I saw Charger at first glance - but from second glance on...I like.

the front kind of looks truck like. the massive chromed grill, the massive headlights, the massive flat front, but the car still looks good, just not great, or amazing.

Bentley Muslanne is absolutely a fantastic car in rems of its exterior design. Moreover, its elongated front can save driver from more injuries.
