Maybe it was the murky lighting or poor placement within the Porsche stand, but the new 911 Sport Classic unveiled here in Frankfurt didn't do much for us.
Don't get us wrong. It is easily one of the coolest 911s to arrive in quite some time. Everything is there -- rear-wheel drive, wide body, 400-plus horsepower, manual tranny, ducktail spoiler, blacked-out wheels.
Maybe it was the price, just over $240,000 for one of the 250 cars being built? No, we would be glad to empty our 401Ks for this.
Then it hit us -- this car sucks because we can't have it. That's right, none are headed to the States, at least legally. Thanks, Porsche.

GT3 in the US has an MSRP of $112,200.
Cayman S: $60,000
For me the 911 turbo the GT3 or the Cayman S would be sufficient.

To make sure I had the numbers correct, I went over the German Porsche web site. Sure enough this is listed at over 200,000 euro's. That is more than twice the price of a 911S and about 80,000 euro's more than a GT3, which this should compare to dynamically. It is even 11,500 euro's more than a GT2.
Does this seem crazy to anyone but me?
I suppose, since its being built in such small numbers it will be bought by collectors, and will probably appreciate in value over time. But just because you slap a bodykit on a car and only build a few hundred of them doesnt make it worth that much more. Or maybe in Porsche's case, it does.
Well, good on Porsche I guess. They can charge whatever they want and people will pay it. I hope Mr. Seinfeld likes his new car.

I feel like this car is still too cheap looking to look like a factory effort, it's more tuner car than Porsche. Love the performance benefits, not interested in the tacked-on retroness, and in the end the GT3 remains the buy for the 911 fanatic.

When Aston's in the house and slapping everyone upside the head, desperation sets in.

It doesn't look any different to my eyes than a regular, run-of-the-mill $80k 911. I don't get it. But then again, I'm not getting one either.

Funny. I read "sport classic" and I envision a rather stripped down, driver's 911. Like ones of yore. Not a $240,000 car! My bad!!!

I'm not sure how I'd justify $240k for this when the (perfect) 458 Italia is going for $200k. And I should be biased towards Porsche, my family owning two classics!

I'm getting a JDM style vibe from this car as its simple yet purposeful in its mission and overall design. Me like.
