2009 Frankfurt Auto Show: 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic

porsche-911-sport-classic.jpg

We're barely into the era of direct-injected Porsche 911s, and Porsche already has a limited-edition model ready to go. The company will build just 250 examples of the 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic. This car will be in the booth at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show alongside the 2010 911 GT3 RS, GT3 Cup and 911 Turbo.

Like the GT3, the 911 Sport Classic is rear-wheel-drive but has the wider body of a 911 4S to accommodate a wider rear track. Still, this isn't a purely functional exercise, as the car's fixed ducktail spoiler is aimed at those of you who still pore over pictures of the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7. The front fascia with prominent lip spoiler is also a unique touch.

You can't see the 19-inch wheels much in the photos, but they're meant to be a retro design as well with black-painted centers evocative of the Fuchs wheels people put on old 911s. Underneath them you'll find Porsche's ceramic composite brakes at no extra charge. The sports suspension is also standard, along with the mechanic rear locking differential.

The 911 Sport Classic makes a bit less horsepower than a 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 -- 408 versus 435 -- but a new resonance intake manifold with six vacuum-controlled flaps should give this version of the 3.8-liter horizontally-opposed six a slightly different sound.

More info and photos after the jump.

The interior scheme is called Espresso Nature and marks Porsche's first use of woven leather. The exterior paint is Sport Classic Grey.

No pricing details were released today, but with Porsche noting that the 911 Sport Classic represents 3 years of development work and that it's aimed at the company's "most enthusiastic and well-heeled fans," you shouldn't expect it to be under six figures.

This is why the 911 continues to live on. Porsche cotinues to celebrate its heritage, knowing that well-heeled Porsche fanatics the world over will snap these up within a week. Has Seinfeld already ordered his?

I love it! Really like the duck tail but the lights could have stayed red.

$240k???? I think they're over estimating the premium that's being assessed.

@vq
I wouldnt spend 240k for that car but I bet they will quickly find customers since its a sharp looking car and money means almost nothing to the people that are buying it.

Since I'm a wage earner, I'd probably just purchase the base vehicle annd be tickled to death with what I had.

With only 250 examples the price should be expected. Its an instant classic and a true drivers car. Excellent!
