Testing on the 2011 Ford Fiesta sedan is continuing in the Mojave desert. This prototype reveals some of the changes in store for the front fascia of the U.S.-bound version.
As you can see, the updates appear to be fairly subtle. The blacked out grille has a slightly wider opening while the bumper gets a new shape that's more American-license-plate friendly. The changes out back are equally minimal.
Still no official word on a four-door hatchback version, but we're pretty sure that Ford has come to its senses by now and decided to give it a shot.

Sedan = fail
hatch = win
3 door hatch = win win win

Ford is staffed by complete idiots if they change ANYTHING about the appearance of the Fiesta while bringing it the the US and A.

^^Agree wholeheartedly with the above. If Ford does not bring the hatch, or makes this look like a kissing-cousin to the american focus, then the whole management structure should be labotomized and the operation sold to Tata motors.

Nope, Ford knows what it is doing. My girlfried (we talked about this last night actually) DOES NOT LIKE HATCHES. She knows there is no reasonable objection, but she just can't see herself in one. A sedan WILL sell better here.
Yes, a little piece of me died when she said that, but I'm wanting this car to replace her old Accord so I can't complain too much.

That looks almost as bad as the current Focus. Even with the camo!

First Post- Correct
The Fiesta has already proven itself in Europe, its the better choice without a doubt. Its more practicle, better looking, more fun to drive in a way and easier to have in cities since they provide better visibility. I can almost guarantee that they will sell a hatch version but with a bigger price tag since they will make more options standard which people cant afford since they can already buy a car thats a class larger. Its like the Mazda 3 hatchback which only had alloy wheels and a 2.3 engin standard versus the sedans standard wheel covers and 2.0 engine.

Convential wisdom says a sedan will sell better than a hatch, but conventional wisdom hasn't served the domestics very well, has it?

I heard that the Fiesta sedan in Europe costs about 24000 in US dollars, so they will have to somehow make the Fiesta sedan cheaper so it can compete with cars like the Honda Fit.

What doug and blueguy said. And don't soften or dumb the car down to appeal to know-nothing US appliance operators; they won't be shoppingthe car anyway.

While every other company are competing with their hatchbacks. Ford wants to be stand out and have the Fiesta to compete amongs seden. Interesting !!!???

@car, yes they will decontent the interior. No need to maul the fiesta's stunning exterior. I've seen it in person and it's a sharp looking little car.

What's the point of having a sedan version? .... ulgier, less practical...and Ford could be saving those millions of dollars it costs to develop and put it towards something worthwhile, and prices are similar to the Fit's (to answer that guy's question from above)

Why do Americans always get an ugly version of the European version. Everytime I saw a Ford Fiesta in London, I wished the US Fiesta would look like it. Now that I've seen, at least the profile from behind the camouflage, I'd say it's ugly. Why! Why! Why! Ford, why! We Americans don't deserve another ugly car!

The 4/5-door hatch in America is more or less a done deal - it's on Ford's (US) web site, and they've already been tooling around the US for months as part of their "Fiesta Movement" campaign. Would be rather idiotic of Ford not to offer the car they've been promoting.

I saw that car driving on the 10 in Los Angeles a week ago. I thought about taking some pics but I thought, "nah, everyone has seen it already".

@xp, this is the same company that once considered killing the RWD Mustang and replacing it with the FWD Probe.

Hi everyone- thought it would be a little fitting for me to chime in here. My name is Mark Kleis, and I am "Agent 67" out of 100 for the Ford Fiesta Movement. I have had a 5-door hatchback full-time since April and put over 7,000 miles on this amazing little car.
First thing to clear up- Ford doesn't need to worry about making the Fiesta capable of competing with the Fit, it is the other way around. The Fiesta has far better handling, mileage, and content. The only thing the Fit has over the Fiesta is extra storage room- but as far as fun is concerned, the Fiesta is the clear winner.
As for the US car, I can't reveal much, but I can say: A.) We will be getting a hatchback and B.) The US car will not only get de-contented to death, but it will GAIN features over the European model. This car WILL change the way Americans see small cars (foreign and domestic).
If you have any questions or want to see my pics and videos, check out my website: www.MarkKleis.com

I hope you are right Mark, but I'll believe it when I see it. ~IF~ Ford de-contents the NA Fiesta they are pulling a dirty trick on the public by lending you guys the great European version to blog about.

Shoot, I just read my comment and realized I worded that wrong! Very wrong! I meant "the Us version will not only NOT get de-contented to death, but it will GAIN features over the European model."
Sorry for that horrific screw up!
