Senator Ted Kennedy, Noted Oldsmobile Owner, Dies at 77

kennedy.jpgSenator Ted Kennedy died tonight after a bout with brain cancer. The long-time senator from Massachusetts was the youngest brother of former president John F. Kennedy.

Ted Kennedy was a rising political star that had eyes on the presidency himself until he was involved in a much-publicized car crash on Chappaquiddick island in the summer of 1969.

Aftter leaving a party in his 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88, Kennedy got lost in the dark and crashed into a pond. He was able to escape, but his female passenger drowned. The incident became a national scandal known as the Chappaquiddick incident and ended any hopes for Kennedy's presidency.

Uh, thanks, Ed. I hadn't reached my quota of tasteless commentary on great American statesmen yet.

Uhm, before anyone asks, that was a National Lampoon fake, not a real VW ad.

I agree with adb4. That is just plain rude.

Well... another brilliant commentary from Mr. Hellwig, political commentator posing as an automotive journalist.

When there were rumors that Aston Martin may wish to rebadage an Toyota iQ for the European market, Mr. Hellwig enlightens us with his political commentary on environmentalism - pinning it on US CAFE regulations.

Not wanting to miss out on the Ted Kennedy post-mortem political news cycle, Mr. Hellwig enlightens us about Ted Kennedy's ownership of an Oldsmobile.

Brilliant automotive journalism Ed. Brilliant.

I for one, am happy to now know that he drove an Oldsmobile at one point.

And everyone else needs to lighten up, its not like Ed specifically spelled out Ted Kennedy's inability to dial the police in a timely fashion.

@Ed Hellwig

Don't you have a Birther Communion/Tea Party somewhere?

See Ed, you can't say what you think, or even note facts, without people getting angry. Don't you just love it?

Unfortunately, it is an example of how the rich and influential can be held to a different legal standard, even in this country. And, I would add that even NPR highlighted this incident today. I guess its the penalty against your legacy when you skate on the actual penalty, and there doesn't seem to be a statue of limitations on people's ire over injustice. Most others would have received jail time and lost their job. Now, if he had paid the penalty, would THAT be to bring it up?

fuhteng- Exactly. The truth REALLY hurts.

BTW the guy can burn in hell. However, unlike his brothers he failed to go out with a bang.

Delmont 88? I believe you mean Delta 88.

So, is no one supposed to mention the truth anymore? This is the degree to which the dominant national media culture, which selectively glorifies the incidents that fit their world view, and under reports the ones which detract from it, has brainwashed so many people.

We don't need to agree, but EVERYONE must be allowed their view. kissel1 is now an exception after insulting children, however.

lol, and agree, with/at fuhteng. yes, if Sarah Palin has said anything with the slightest bit of sanity, it's that children should be off limits. kissel1 has crossed the line with his comments.
