GM Getting Rid of Corporate Logo On All Models

gmbadge-950.jpg

Say goodbye to the "GM" badge. You know that little square on the quarter panel that reminded all Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC and Pontiac owners that they were part of one big happy General Motors family?

The General has decided that the general public might not see that as much of a plus these days, so it's planning on slowly phasing out the small silver squares. Few people are likely to notice, but the fact that GM is that conscious of its public image says quite a bit about where the company is right now.

Yet another example of GM flip-floppery. X is the greatest thing since sliced bread! We are phasing out X. Y is the greatest thing since slice bread and X! Y is not cost conscious and we are phasing it out.

For what it's worth, I though these were a stupid waste of money from the beginning, and they don't look good on some vehicles.

Doesn't make sense to me.

huh - my thoughts on this?? Meh. I actually thought it was a nice touch, but it didn't make or break the car. But their reasons for removing it don't make sense. Everyone knows that Cadillac, GMC, Buick and Chevrolet are all made by GM. Not having a specific badge on the car to say so won't change anything.

hmmm.... me wonders about that photo. If you guys took that photo, you don't have a yellow GM in your fleet. That doesn't happen to be the LT Camaro does it???

At the same time, they're probably redesigning their logo. New company, after all.

It always reminded me of their seatbelt buckles and square keys. Ah, fond memories of a 1985 Chevy Celebrity wagon.

If anything I think GM should have made those badges bigger and placed more of them on each car - one on the hood, on the rear bumper, on each door sill, on each wheel, and maybe slap some stickers on the center console, car seats, and floor mats.

I don't think the badges got enough attention from people in the first place.

It was a lame idea to begin with that took them how long to figure out?

"Everyone knows that Cadillac, GMC, Buick and Chevrolet are all made by GM."

Oh I wouldn't say that. A friend of mine that has owned Saturns for the past 10 years or so was recently horrified to find out from me that Saturn was owned by GM. I would guess at least 3/4 of the American public couldn't name all of GM's brands.

Those square badges are hideous! Half the time, they are stuck on crooked, and look like a sad-sack attempt at a group hug. I would much rather see a silver badge reading "inspected by #14, and its all screwed and glued tightly."

Instead of piddling with these badges just make good cars already. Sheesh.

Finally! I hated those badges with a passion. It was a ugly little mole that molested the beauty of the corvette, camaro and pretty much every model. It will not be missed. Probably the only smart thing Government Motors will do

When back in between 2004 and 2005 GM CEO Rick Wagner anounce GM will have that little stupid GM badge on every car they produce. I sent an email to GM and tell them not to do it. Well, at least they didn't do it on the Saab. Thank God !!! Now this show GM is not a consumer driven company. They should have done it, such a waste of money !!!

What is sad is than GM is ashamed of GM. They have contributed more than any other company to Automotive engineering than any other company. Most major break throughs were invented by GM. Electric starter, automatic transmissions, first vehicles with air bags, in car telematics, on board diagnostics and others. Also many minor technologies were introduced on GM vehicles such as automatic headlights, magnetic shocks, cylinder deactivation, limp home mode for malfunctions, automatic climate control, heads up displays, power sliding doors, night vision, automatic wipers and others. GM engines powered the Sherman tanks of WW2 and the Lunar Rover was designed and built by GM. They need to remind people of their accomplishments and hard work over the last century and be proud of who they are instead of ashamed.
