2011 Bentley Mulsanne Debuts at the Pebble Beach Concours

mulsanne-live-950.jpg

Known only as the Bentley Grand up to this point, the 2011 Bentley Mulsanne finally made its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance yesterday.

A replacement for the current Arnage, the Mulsanne is all-new vehicle that was designed and engineered solely at Bentley's facility in Crewe. Only a handful of parts were carried over from the current car, so although Bentley swears it had a shoestring budget for the car it's still very much a ground up redesign.

entire design for me is a big let down.
maybe its me, maybe I am too old and stodgy at 36.
this and the new XJ, both do not translate for me.

my problem with this: For me the Bentley is a owner/driver sedan that exudes a cool no-nonsense power and understated elegance and luxury. Not as flashy as the Rolls however it was more about old money. New money buys a Rolls to stand out, not a Bentley.

Design wise: this is way to flashy, more like a hyped 300C than a continued evolution.

Both the Turbo Rs, through to the Arnage had the upright greenhouse and purposeful stance, this is a cross-eyed hack job with stupid grin that belongs in a child movie called "Cars"

Gone is the freight-train determination of the old fascia and upright bull-dog fighting rear haunch

It kinda looks like an Avanti.

I don't know... are the headlights big enough?

It looks okay, but this won't be overtaking the RR Phantom as the top luxury cruiser. And I'm getting a little Lincoln MKR in the rear 3/4 view...not good.

Resale values for older Bentleys just went up

Looks good. I wonder how Jeremy Clarkson will react to this?

I think Rolls backed Bentley into a corner...back in the day when the two were conjoined, it made sense that they would both have similar shapes even if they weren't always the same car. Nowadays that doesn't fly and unfortunately for Bentley, I think their tightrope is apparent in this design even if it is very nice.

I like it....but it just doesn't look new.

bankerdanny says:

So, so, but still far better than the crap Roll's turns out.

buzaglo04 says:

its pretty sick looking

stovt001 says:

I like it, except for the headlights.

zoomzoomn says:

That front end is kind of fugly! Like Avanti meets Bentley. Weird.

darkman_xxl says:

Kind of looks like that car from the movie The Car. Not really feeling those headlights...

redliner says:

The whole thing is too flashy and over the top. This looks like something Rolls Royce dreamed up. Bentley supposed to be past all of that.

estreka says:

I know Bentley has to distinguish itself from the Chrysler 300, but...

mayback says:

for me this car is absolutely stuning. all the body detail. But in sme point, it looks tomuch like the Brookland, tail light and from fenders

A real great British job
