Yes, you read that right. This unloved Biturbo was recently traded in on a Subaru as part of the Cash for Clunkers program. With less than 19,000 miles on the clock, it was quite the fresh Maserati, although according to its owner no one seemed to care as he was unable to unload it on the open market.
CNN: Maserati Clunker To Be Crushed

The phrase "unloved Biturbo" is almost entirely redundant. This particular example has a lovely interior, and it's easy to see how someone might once have fallen in love with it.
Then comes the reality of chronic overheating, a deep-fried electrical system, really nasty fuel system problems, and pretty soon it's a clunker. I've seen Silver Shadows that were worth no more than $6k, thanks to the $5k brake and suspension rebuild waiting just around the corner.
This one should at least be salvaged by a Euro specialty scrapyard, parted out so that the interior bits can be sold off before its appointment with the crusher.

Ah yes, the old Bitrouble. I don't think there's much future appreciation potential there anyway.

I wonder how much was the owner asking for when he's trying to sell it...

No one seemed to care when Jeremy Clarkson dropped a dumpster on one.

The Top Gear clip was the first thing I thought of when I saw this on the Straightline page.

I'm interested to hear more about this Maserati Bee Turbo the CNN reporter is talking about. Does this mean the car was powered by little honey-producing insects that passed through the engine, then were recycled through the engine to produce additional power? I'd imagine it would be a bit buzzy.

True story: I nearly bought one as my first car six years ago. I passed up that for an even more unreliable Saab. I sure can pick 'em. Those old Mazzers are still cool, even if they don't run.
I'm looking for an A6 2.7T with a similar BeeTurbo layout...

Umm, "beeterbo" is the correct pronunciation, accent on second syllable. What did you think it was?
This was a gorgeous car, IIRC based on a study Giugiaro proposed for the BMW 3-series in the early '80s. BMW chose to go with its in-house design, so Maserati bought it from ItalDesign--but imagine this car with reliable systems, built on a production line in a German factory. Sigh...

Much like any other word with "bi" as the prefix ... it's pronounced "bye-turbo."
Biology? Bisexual? ...Tthose are the only two (bi?) I can think of off the top of my head.

And that's sad. I've had water with more flavor than a base Impreza.

Kind of sad. Even more sad will be hearing the Maser's engine lock up after they drain the oil and pour in the liquid glass. Damn the feds!

true story - i bought a beautiful British racing green and tan interior used one back in 92' off of a dealers used car lot. I drove off the lot and got to the first light and the waterpump broke - fluid all over the ground. i managed to drive it back and the dealer called me a week later to say they had fixed it - i told them no thanks and to keep the car. But, that car was beautiful and unique back in the day.
