Suzuki Adding SX4 Sportback to Its Lineup; Announces Free Gas Promotion

Suzuki will expand its SX4 lineup with the addition of a Sportback model this fall. It's essentially a performance-oriented version of the current SX4 hatchback. It will feature a new 2.0-liter engine that bumps output to 150-hp and 140 pound-feet of torque.

Power will go to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The Sportback also gets a lower ride height, revised dampers, 17-inch wheels and revised front and rear fascias.

If you can't wait until the fall, Suzuki has also announced a new pre-paid gas promotion that runs through the rest of the summer. Custormers that buy a new Suzuki SX4 prior to Aug. 31st will get a debit card good for three months of free gas based on various national averages.

More demand for AWD in the Sedan than there is for FWD in the Sportback.

Soooooo you get free gas for a vehicle that gets great mileage?

Free gas is free gas. I wouldn't complain.

I'm liking the 150 horses and the 6-spd manual, though!

I had some communications with Suzuki in January, mainly about the arrival date of the Swift. They had no solid info on the Swift. They were very friendly, sent me a T-shirt, but asked me why I didn't just buy the existing SX4 hatch. I told them that I liked my '05 Aerio for several reasons, but mostly I liked the 155 hp 152 torque engine. I just didn't feel that the SX4 hatch had that much kick to it.......heavier car, but less hp. I told them that the hatchback might be more appealing with a little more sportiness. Apparently they did tweak the engine a lil bit. It's still a 2.0, but the hp has increased.....along with the tire size. I like the 6 speed, and the car's looks are more pleasing. Good job Suzuki! Hopefully people will give this car consideration when they shop. I definately would.

The article doesn't say, but is Suzuki upgrading ALL of its 2010 SX4 models to the new 2.0-liter, 150-hp engine and six-speed manual or CVT?
Can Straightline find out and post the answer?
I like the SX4 but its current engine/transmission combination aren't great for mileage or performance.

Suzuki- enough already with the SX4 and Kazashi sedan. Most of us are waiting for the Swift and Swift Sport ( and maybe a Swift Sport Supercharged?). I would LOVE to see a Mini Cooper competitor for thousands less than what MINI wants. Right now about 19k USD for a Cooper and 22.5K for a Cooper S. A JCW edition ?? 29k! !... for a MINI Cooper. A Suzuki Swift Sport would probably go for about 15-17.5k...125hp 2300lbs ,great handling. Lets get this show on the road in the USA...literally. Quit stalling Suzi....How about at leat providing an update.
