More Drama: Last Mayfield Employee Resigns

For those of you who have been living under a rock haven't been keeping up with the Jeremy Mayfield NASCAR drama, here's a very brief timeline of the events leading up to the latest report.

May 1 - Mayfield tests positive for meth in random drug test
May 9 - Suspended indefinitely by NASCAR
July 1 - Federal judge lifts suspension
July 6 - Fails another random drug test, NASCAR looking to reinstate ban

Although you would think this drama would have ended weeks ago, it surely hasn't and another story has developed.

Most recently, ESPN reported that Mayfield's stepmother, Lisa, claimed to have seen the driver using meth 30 times over the last seven years.

If Perez Hilton hasn't given you your fill of juicy gossip for the day, make the jump for Jeremy's response and reasons why his team's general manager just resigned.

Mayfield refuted his stepmother's claims with this response: "She's basically a whore. She shot and killed my dad. For her to come out and do this is pretty ballsy. Everybody that's ever known me knows I never, ever have been around her for more than 10 hours of my life." Mayfield's father reportedly died in 2007 due to a self-inflicted gun wound, and Jeremy is currently looking to serve his stepmother with a wrongful death suit.

To top it off, the last remaining employee of Mayfield's race team, general manager Bobby Wooten, resigned Wednesday. He said he thinks Jeremy is telling the truth (about not doing meth), citing the fact that he was around him almost 24/7 without observing any signs of drug addiction.

Wooten stuck by Mayfield with the belief that they would soon get back on the track, and, due to the latest developments, resigned because it's doubtful the driver will make a comeback anytime soon.

So, who do we believe? Jeremy's stepmother or general manager?

Great, just what NASCAR needs, a huge PR mess with a soon-to-be (permanently) former-driver.

I don't care about NASCAR in the slightest, but this is just sad. I wonder how long until Danica goes to NASCAR?

I guess it's true, drugs do ruin your life.

Maybe Jeremy was bummed because the only sponsor he could get was All Sport. I didn't even realize they still sold All Sport.
