Manual Camaro SS Models On Hold After Output Shaft Failures

camaroburn-555.jpg

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is facing a possible recall after several owners have experienced failures with their manual-equipped SS models. According to several reports on the Camaro5 website, hard launches have caused output shaft failures, especially when using the factory launch control.

According to Autoblog, Chevrolet is looking into the issue and has halted additional deliveries of manual-equipped SS cars for now. The Camaro SS uses the Tremec 6060 gearbox which is used in several other high-performance V8 applications.

@fuhteng, don't you mean GT-R problems since they're similar?

A lot of cars' transmissions break when you launch them hard. That is why you preload the drivetrain.

Isn't the 370Z the one with the tranny problem? But yes, I forgot about the GT-R's troubles too.

However, isn't this the same drive train as the G8 GXP? I haven't heard of any problems with it! It must be that the Camaro is made in Canaduh. Darned Canucks trying to mess with our 'Merican cars!

Its a manufacturing flaw in a certain batch, not a design flaw.

Isn't this the second recall on the Camaro SS since its introduction? Something about battery connections or some such. While I understand new model introductions often come with a higher percentage of problems, GM needed a home run here and seems to be settling for a sacrifice bunt.

"Its a manufacturing flaw..."

"Its a manufacturing flaw in a certain batch, not a design flaw."

That wasn't the case (at least with the domestic fans) when the Tundra was released and maybe 25-30 or so of those 5.7L Tundras suffered broken camshafts.

That wasn't directed toward you Stovt, its just I get SOOOOOOO tired of some of the domestic faithful who always cry "double standard" when they do the same thing. It goes both ways.

As far as GM is concerned, they really needed to come out swinging when it came to quality, reliability and durability perception. Recalls and such aren't good press for any company that is trying to reinvent themselves and trying to change consumer perceptions about quality.

Normal side effect of the enormous power engines are producing these days.

Big power pushing big weight and something will break sooner or later.
