It's Now Official: 2010 Honda Crosstour Coming This Fall

Honda has now confirmed one of its worst kept secrets. There will be an all-new Accord-based crossover vehicle added to its lineup this year and it will be called the 2010 Honda Crosstour. No other information was given, but how much more do you really need to know?

It's a lot more interesting to look at than an Accord.

I'll decide if that's a good thing when I see one in person.

It's not a crossover though, it's just a hatchback version of the Accord. I like that idea.

Not sure how anyone can judge a vehicle's looks when it's covered with tape? I'm not just talking about this Honda, but any pre-production car.

In any event, I'm sure it will be much more appealing when all the advertising "beauty shots" have been taken, and when seen in person.

No its a crossover. You can tell the ride height is higher than a regular sedan. But its that back end that i cant seem to get over. It looks to big and looks kinda like a more shapely Aztec. But i'll wait to see when the thing is fully uncovered. But they cant hide the overall shape which im not to happy with.

Looks like Honda is taking the same chance as BMW's 3 & 5 GT with a tall hatchback (or crossover sedan, or whatever it may be called). Time will tell if the style becomes popular.. maybe AMC was well ahead of their time with the Eagle!

I dont think so. Its a Honda version of the Acura ZDX which is also ugly. What is the point of this? They already have the CR-V.

Are you sure that this isn't a camo'd Acura ZDX?

dbt says:

1487,
This is a pretty different vehicle than the CRV. I cannot fit my 4 person family in a CRV for a long trip, but should be able with this one. It also has a different platform than the ZDX.

Crossover is such a hot buzzword in the automotive industry right now, anyone will call any new vehicle a Crossover.

It's a hatchback.

Well, styling is subjective. One person's passion...

This vehicle will offer a V6, unlike the CRV. Also, unlike the CRV, this CrossTour will be a notch up the premium ladder from the CRV, much like the Accord is to the Civic, and the Pilot is to the CRV.

I see this car being cross-shopped by Venza and Outback customers (even though it is a hatchback), and less so by Pilot or CRV customers.

Check out it's rearward visibility! What happened to this (from the Fit post):
"Honda's big book of standards and practices, the manual of officially approved design and construction that determines the final form of every Honda built. In fact, it's this emphasis on visibility that has everything to do with the ease with which every Honda drives"

I know I won't be buying one. What else should I know?

Yesterday an editor posted about the wonderful visibility designed into all Honda vehicles. This car calls him a liar.

"This is a pretty different vehicle than the CRV. I cannot fit my 4 person family in a CRV for a long trip, but should be able with this one. It also has a different platform than the ZDX."

How can you not fit 4 people in a CRV? Even with luggage that shouldn't be a problem.

firstwagon says:

If you look again, you'll notice part of the rear pillar is just painted glass... part of the camoflage.

Easiest to see on the white car.

The Crosstour and the Acura ZDX don't share platforms as the Crosstour is Accord based and the ZDX is MDX based.

As far as looks are concerned, the Venza is much better looking.

We're tall. Fit is tough for us (we could fit in a CRV for a short trip, but would not want to spend 8+ hours like that). New Outback works, not old one. New Forester is a little tight. This is a LONG vehicle, and should have good rear-seat passenger legroom.

I won't deny the fact that this could be a useful vehicle, but another mentioned that a CRV could serve much the same purpose, albeit with a little less room. Of course, this would depend on the size of the family. To me it doesn't look much like a crossover, but more like a 2009 Accord that mutated with a long-defunct Pontiac Aztec. Its closest competitor would appear to be the Toyota Venza, a vehicle thats great for what it does but just not exciting in any way. What Honda needs to do is be different rather than trying to imitiate Toyota who seems to be doing a very good job at producing Japanese Buicks (albeit very good ones!). What I would like to see from Honda is a "4 door coupe" version of the Accord kinda like Volkswagen's CC. Now I know I said that Honda shouln't imitate, but that CC is a good one to go after (Accord SC?). Furthermore, they could bring back the classic Prelude and put a modified S-2000 like motor (240-250 hp?) in it--and make it into a 4-door coupe (Prelude SC4?). If Honda did that, they wouldn't be able to keep them on any dealers lot, 2 door or 4 door. How about a tranny similar in concept to the VW/Audi DSG? (but still keep the traditional manual) Now there is a real idea. Its all about Innovation, not imitation. I rest my case.

It might be a visual hallucination. It looks very similar to BMW 3-Series GT. But I find it common for HONDA to make their cars look BWM like. Especially from the side.

Too bad Honda does not just bring over their European Accord Touring (our TSX in wagon form). Looks better, drives better & probably more practical. Check out UK's Car Magazine site for it.

The back end looks like a Maxima after falling off the Jenny Craig bandwagon

BFD ...an Accord Hatchback. Honda get off your duffs and get the CRZ info out....and maybe a proper update?????

dave_hronek says:

Looking past the camouflage, it looks like a previous model Nissan Maxima from the rear. All in all though I would say not bad!
