GM Unleashes New Incentives, G8 GXP Included

09.pontiac.g8.gxp.act-burn.blog.jpg

GM announced its "Buy and Say Goodbye" incentive program yesterday in a bid to boost sales over the holiday weekend. The "buy" part is a new incentive that offers 0% financing for up to 72 months on select vehicles for qualified buyers. The "Say Goodbye" part is merely a reminder of how many vehicles GM makes that qualify for the new "cash for clunkers" program.

Normally such incentives exclude the vehicles we really want to get our hands on, but in this case the financing offer is good on the Pontiac G8 GXP. So in other words, if you're looking for yet another reason to convince the wife that you really need a 415-horsepower sedan with a six-speed manual, the government has finally done something to help.

I wonder if you can get invoice or lower price with the 0% for 72 months.

I still don't like the idea of paying for a car for 6 years... but wow. At 0% interest, you could do worse! That is brilliant. I assume this will stack with all the other offers GM has going too.

The sad thing is, you'll be upside down on the loan for 4 of those 6 years (I assume).

Still, fantastic offer. And what better way to build your credit rating than with a 6 year 0% loan!?

Estreka, well it is kinda hard to say with resale values being depressed along with the rest of the market, but I bought my Cobalt 3 years ago with this same 6 years at 0% deal (this exact same date range too) and you sometimes forget how quickly the balance will be paid off when the full monthly payment goes towards it instead of interest. I'm not too far from being right side up, and if gas prices (and subsequent demand for small cars) had stayed up and the economy didn't collapse, I might be right-side up already. I didn't like the idea of being indebted for 6 years on a car either, but the numbers make good sense.

When I bought the car, the salesman griped no one would buy until GM offered the 0% financing, because they knew if they waited long enough, GM would surely do it. It is going to be really tough for GM to cut back on these incentives and maintain sales now that they have come to be expected.

Wow, that's such a tempting deal, it's enough to make me consider the opportunity, even though I sure don't need another car.
