Geeking Out: A Snapshot of Lamborghini Sales

lambosales-950 web.jpg

Look, we know it's geeky. But we like us some charts. We've decided on a delicious Lamborghini pie chart for this, a look at how sales of each Lamborghini model ever made compare.

We should note that there are a few oddballs and one-offs that Lambo has built over the years. We have not included those. Our numbers come from Lamborghini itself, so if you believe that you are the proud owner of the 780th Miura produced, well, we'll give you the company's number. First though, you'll want to check to see if your Miura SV says "Fiero" anywhere on it.

Make the jump for a closer look.

Lambo Espada 950.jpg Lambo Silhouette 950.jpg Lambo Jarama 950.jpg Lambo Urraco 950.jpg Lambo Countach 950.jpg Lambo Jalpa 950.jpg Lambo LM 002 950.jpg Lambo Murcielago 950.jpg Lambo Diablo 950.jpg Lambo Gallardo 950.jpg

Anyway, beyond the obvious geek appeal, the chart shows exactly how much production of the current two cars eclipses everything before them. In particular, Lamborghini has produced 9,900 Gallardo coupes and convertibles, and that model is still going strong. For perspective, the entire production of every car that came before the Gallardo since the founding of the company (except the Murcielago) totals less than 9,500.

And the Countach, the car that defines what a Lamborghini is for most enthusiasts, totals only 1,999, less than a fifth of the number of Gallardos built to date and a bit more than half of the number of Murcielagos constructed.

Also, the Silhouette remains the rarest of series-produced Lambo. See attached photo to see why.

I. am. impressed. Thats a good piece of automotive journalism/investigation.
This effort really shows just how much the "entry-level" Gallardo has paid off for them. It's flat-out impressive. I knew it was a bread-winner, but not to THAT extent.

I would be interested in future forays like this into specialty manu's like Porsche, Maser, Aston Martin and others.

However, doing this to any of the bigger more mainstream manu's (Chevy, Honda) would be overwhelming personally, and not of as much interest.

I'm not sure what you mean about seeing the photo of the Silhoutte to understand why it is the rarest.

Personally, I always loved the look of that model. It was much more understated than the Countach. It's probably my 2nd favorite after the Miura.

Isn't the Silhouette a different version of the Jalpa? Rare because it was a limited or pre version of the Jalpa?

isaacl,

I think we all know what the Porsche one would look like. It'd be more interesting if they broke it down between the iterations of the 911.

The Jalpa was an updated version of the Silhouette. The Sil was made in 76-77 and the Jalpa 82-90.

brief,
If they broke it down by internal model number (i.e. 993, 996, etc.) and type (i.e. Targa, C2, C4, etc.), I think it would be really interesting.

Im in information design and the way over-exaggerated 3-D effect makes this chart hard to decipher. Can we just go with a more simplistic information display?

The info is interesting tho

brief & arm51.
Yeah, you are both correct, I should have specified that which i was thinking in that treating every model of the 911 as its own model (and then throwing in the Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne...and then the 928, 944...etc etc...)

You highlighted my stated flaw. Thank you.

I cant think of any other manu I'd like to see dissected in sales than Porsche. Wow.

Very interesting. I agree with the comments above. A Porsche graph would be VERY interesting.

Totally agree with you, bankerdanny. I've always liked the look of the Jalpa, WAY more than the Countach, although apparently the Gallardo is an absolute DREAM to drive.

The Gallardo is likely the most practical but it's the one I like the least. Too much Audi. If I'm buying an exotic Italian toy, I want it to be more Italian.

My favourite to dream about is the Countach but I would buy a Diablo.

I'd see to a breakdown on lots of automakers but on the big ones you'd have to stick to current models or the numbers would be unmanageable.

One phone call to Lamborghini's press office? Hardly the automotive answer to Bernstein and Woodward.

Actually, I bet you could find this info on Wiki. Still, very well compiled. Thanks Daniel.

Did anyone else notice the pic of the Jalpa is a model/toy car?
