Chrysler issued a press release this afternoon confirming that it is no longer trying to sell its Viper business. Although production was scheduled to shut down at the end of this year, Chrysler will continue building the high-powered sportscar indefinitely.
"The Dodge Viper has successfully captured the hearts and imagination of performance enthusiasts around the globe," said Mike Accavitti, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dodge Brand. "We're extremely proud that the ultimate American-built sports car with its world-class performance will live on as the iconic image leader for the Dodge brand."

Excellent! I've had my new 2009 SRT-10 for about 3 months! Love it! 600 HP is just incredible!

I think the Viper looks fine...they just need to improve the interior and add standard safety devices ...like side-impact airbags.
The corvette on the other hand definitely needs a remodel - it looks too plain compared to other cars currently on the market.

Its good to see the Viper "brand" stay at Chrysler however... I think they need to get their priorities straight as the Viper doesn't and wont keep the lights on.
Chrysler's midsize sedans and small cars are simply outclassed by EVERYTHING in the segment. I know Fiat plans to change that but I don't see U.S. consumers fully accepting these products and choosing over brands Chevy, Honda, Toyota, Ford, Nissan or Mazda. I wish Chrysler could actually engineer and develop their own lineup.

My first thought is "is this by design?" They said they were going to sell Viper off, got government loan money, declared as favorable a bankruptcy as they could manage, emerged from bankruptcy, and have now said "nah the Viper's here to stay". Considering that the US government has never understood the enthusiast, I just wonder if Chrysler did it all on purpose.

While I am glad that the Viper is not going away, it almost feels like a kick to the shins of the Gov't (and taxpayer) who funded this whole mess that Chrysler is in. They put on the sour face face, promise to say grace and then when it's all said and done they go back to playing with the devil...

Yeah I couldn't have said it better myself. IMO Chrysler should have died. Personally I think their products are embarassing with respect to quality and design. The fact that they lived is bad enough but now I feel like they are throwing sand in the faces of all those taxpayers who are gambling on Fiat's management. Jeez if I was Fiat I'd say "no way". Unless the Viper is making a huge profit, which I doubt, then sell it. Talk about irresponsible.
