2010 BMW X1 Photos Emerge, Still Looks a Bit Odd

bmw-x1-f34-950.jpg

Official-looking photos of the upcoming 2010 BMW X1 have found their way to the internet and they do little to resolve the debate surrounding why this vehicle exists. Essentially a crossover version of the BMW X3, which is also a crossover, the X1 appears to have even less space and more tepid performance. Sound good to you?

White is not this car's color I think. A darker color would make the line of the hood across the front less obvious.

It looks a lot like the X3... a little awkward. I guess the only point to the car is to try and get people into a lower priced BMW; though I don't know why folks would want less space and less power. Might as well go for an Aston Martin Cygnet. Haha!

They have totally ripped the design of the Subaru Outback. Why is unclear, but they certainly have created an Impreza wagon clone.

I can only assume that this well end up replacing the dated X3, or else the people at the head of BMW really are off their rockers. I mean, there's some logic behind chasing niches but this is ridiculous.

nope, the X3 is going to be redesigned. this is a totally new vehicle that is going to compete with the Audi Q3 when that debuts on the VW Polo platform.

personally, i think that BMW is just coming up with these new vehicles because they can.

the 5 Series GT, the 3 series GT, the X6, the X1, and even the defunct X7 and CS: these vehicles are totally different from the norm, and people may or may not warm up to buying them. they're totally niche vehicles, especially the GT's and the X6.

Weird. Maybe there is a market for 5-10k of these per year? I can't see how or why the X vehicles sell. X3, x5, x6 are all a mystery to me.

The comment about performance is strange too as BMW won't sell it in the USA with anything less than an inline 6 so the base model will roll with at least 230 hp just like the 128/328.

anything smaller than X5 is out of interest for me. Small expensive crossovers are somewhat of a joke.

You know, it seems like just last month we were oogling over what a hot body it had.

Some of Edmunds questions about the X1 vs. X3 mirror some of mine for the 1-Series vs. 3-Series. But assuming it uses the same engines, it's unlikely to have more tepid performance than its bigger brother. Probably the other way 'round. Plus, the X1 looks better than the dumpy, misshapen 1-Series, IMO.
