2010 Audi A5 2.0T Starts at $36,825

Audi_A5_blog.jpg

We will probably never get tired of looking at the Audi A5, but like all nice things, it's not cheap. But for 2010, it's cheaper. Audi is now offering its turbocharged, direct-injected, 2.0-liter inline-4 (you know, the 2.0T) in the A5, and this pushes the coupe under the $40K mark.

A 2010 Audi A5 2.0T Premium quattro coupe with a six-speed manual gearbox costs $36,825 with destination. Compare that to $35,900 for a base 2009 Infiniti G37 coupe and $37,325 for a base 2009 BMW 328i coupe. Mind you, either of those cars is (a lot) quicker than the A5. So you'd really have to love the Audi's high style.

Add the Tiptronic six-speed automatic to your 2010 Audi A5 2.0T, and the price goes up to $38,025. A5s with the Premium Plus packages start at $40,325 with the manual gearbox. And if you must have the Prestige package, you're looking at $45,125.

ooh... i'd buy one if i didn't already have too many cars.

at under $40k its affordable to me. yes, its slower than the others, but chip it and things should be much closer.

I think the only two Audis you buy for their performance are the R8 and the RS4, and even then there are other cars in the same price range that will beat them (ZR1, 911 Turbo, CTS-V, M3, C63).

Audi's are beautiful, luxurious and can move, but not as fast as their competition. It hasn't stopped them from being a very powerful luxury brand!

it's a beautiful car without a doubt, but I can't see how anybody could justify buying the 2.0 over a G37 with almost 50% more power.

I'm with bankerdanny on this. If I want a German car with a 2.0T engine, I'd rather just save some cash and get a VW.

This 2.0T has a higher output using valve lift technology. Not the same. Even if it were the same, I'd gladly take this over a G37.

I've yet to figure out what makes Audi products SO DAMN EXPENSIVE.....to purchase and own.

Too expensive, and too slow.

blueguydotcom says:

drew, don't forget expensive to maintain, poorly built and backed by an invisible warranty.

huh? The claimed 0-60 for the 328 coupe is 6.3 and 6.9 for the 328Xi.

Audis A4 Quattro Tiptronic will do it in 6.7 so its right in the middle. I'd expect the A5 to be marginally faster given the A53.2 hits 60 in 5.8 Vs 6.2 for the A4

Lets not forget the pleather seats in the BMW. By the time its optioned up to the standard spec of either the Infiniti or the Audi its a LOT more expensive.

"expensive to maintain, poorly built and backed by an invisible warranty" ?? This guy must work for BMW. I have owned a 2003 TT 225hp and currently own a 2006 A4 3.2 Quattro. My A4 has over 60K miles, looks and drives like new with not a single squeak or rattle. The service and warranty experience at my dealer has been outstanding. BTW, checkout the latest J.D. Power survey...Audi beats BMW hands down in the survey of owners.

fourplay, my wife owns an audi right not. It's falling apart (trim pieces have been falling off for two years) and according to local dealers none of that is covered by the 4 year/50k warranty.

* Door weather stripping came off the bottom of the door - Audi response "not covered"
* Weather stripping around the front window has become loose - Audi response "not covered"
* Center console button broke (just like my 2001 VW) - Audi response "not covered"
* Door lock button's rubber covering blistered and fell off - Audi response (shocker) "not covered"
* Rear hatch clips broke - Audi response "not covered"

We get oil changes for free and..yeah even those are limited. They have generously offered to fix all of those issues, with the cheapest ringing in at $75 (the clips) and the most expensive at $400 (weather stripping on the door).

Flipside all of my BMWs/Coopers have had various things break and I've never spent a dime on upkeep of my Bimmers. The dealers may often be incompetent but at least they're pleasant and do not have the audacity to charge for fixes to flaws in their cars.

My wife loves her Audi.

So yes, poorly built (sub standard parts), expensive to maintain (a car with 30k miles shouldn't have thousands of dollars in repairs) and backed by an invisible warranty (nothing is covered).

Audi/VW hasn't changed in the 8 years I've owned their cars.

I've worked behind the scenes with Audi, BMW, and Mercedes and BMW and Mercedes have a lot more dirty laundry when it comes to reliability and system failures than Audi.

Grenading BMW engines that were poorly designed (M3), brakes that fail on track days (M Series in general), iDrive controllers that have poor engineering. Mercedes electronics on the whole make Joe Lucas look like a saint.

Audi is lower profile but you get a much better designed and engineered product.

As to performance as usual a bunch of confused teenagers posting mix up straight line acceleration numbers with true world and track performance. The R8 is an astonishing car that has been far better developed than the "cousin' 997TT.

BMW and Mercedes have a lot to learn, but thankfully for them the public don;t get to see their dirty laundry.

"My A4 has over 60K miles, looks and drives like new with not a single squeak or rattle. "

That's a first. I had a 2002 S4. It was constantly at the dealership for warranty work. I was always taking time off work to get it there, much to my boss's chagrin. He never understood how a new car could be at the shop so much. Of course he drove a Honda.

Control arms, steering pump . . I've been told that these things have always gone bad on Audis and this has not changed.

I wouldn't even talk about reliability amongst the German brands. If you want reliability, get a Honda or Toyota.

funny thing about post from blueguy..even after all the claimed problems, his wife still loves her Audi. Car must be doing something right. Drove a friends Mini...never heard so many creaks and rattles and on a car with less that 20K. I can only speak based upon my ownership experience, but based upon 9 years of driving Audi products, I would own nothing else.

I currently have a 4.2 A6 with almost 20k miles on it. I have every gadget and electronic piece of wizardy and yet to have 1 issue with mechanics/electronics so far. Just put gas in it and go. Several of my coworkers have 2.0T A4's and they're mostly trouble-free and they don't have too many issues.

Cars are machinery, and you can have a car from ANY brand that makes you pull your hair out.

Audi's from 2005 on up are far better than they use to be. Go on the BMW and MB forums, and they're are a host of complaints from unhappy owners as well.

But back to the A5. The 2.0T is an incredible motor. It's the best 4cyl on the market. With nearly 260lb ft of torque under 2k RPM, it's a stump puller. So much fun to drive with a manual and it'll pull close to 6.0 sec 0-60. Plenty of power all the up to 100 mph. With an AWD car build like a tank, that's pretty impressive. And getting nearly 30 mpg on the hwy is a bonus.

The car buying public gets fooled with HP numbers and 0-60 times. There's far more to that.

I've been in many G35's with almost 300hp. After driving an Audi and going into an Infiniti - the cheapness factor and where Infiniti saved money is apparent in about 30 seconds.

If you can get a manual A5 Quattro under 37k, it's a deal. You get real leather interior, a sunroof, 18 inch wheels, and a lot of standard equipment that BMW and Mercedes charge you extra for.

Go drive MB and BMW base 220-230 6 cyl motors and then hop into Audi's new 2.0T. You'll be impressed. It's the torque and power curve that makes all the differnce in the Audi.

I'm use to 350 hp in my 4.2 A6. My next car might be a 2.0T A4. It's that good.

huyracing says:

exactly. the 2.0T feels so impressive that my mom, who drives a MB S500, enjoys it... and she hates driving anything without torque because she is so used to the V8.
