VW Routan Gets uconnect Wi-Fi Feature, Caravan Rebadging is Complete

The rebadging of the Dodge Caravan into Volkswagen's Routan has officially gone too far. Autonet Mobile announced today that uconnect web, the name Chrysler uses for a dealer-installed option that creates a Wi-Fi hot spot in a vehicle using a cellular connection, will be available through more than 600 VW dealerships starting this month.

Truth is, the uconnect Wi-Fi router can be installed in any vehicle, no matter the make or model. All you have to do is pay the $499 for the Autonet router and a subscription of $29 a month. And the router and service is available through the aftermarket as well.

Autonet also struck a deal earlier this year to make its wireless router available for the Cadillac CTS, and another blog reported today that a Daimler executive told a European website that Internet in the car will soon be "unavoidable."

But we're sure that the guy in the next lane surfing the 'net on his iPhone already knows that.

UNsurprising that VW isn't selling these vans. I mean, how many many years after that awesome Microbus concept it is....and they facelift and re-badge the T&C... How could they expect people to intelligently purchase these things?
