The Stig Finally "Revealed" on Top Gear

stigrevealed-950.jpg

So the wait is finally over? After all these years and all these laps, we finally get to see the true identity of Top Gear's most famous host? Yeah right.

A nice little stunt maybe, but even after this episode we're still no closer to finding out who the real Stig is that we were last week, sorry.

See for yourself after the jump.

Is that guy someone famous? Might as well be Roy Disney as the guy's real identity is meaningless to me.

Love Top Gear. Don't care the Stig is.

Oh dear. Mr. Blueguydotcom should be very very very embarrassed at not knowing Michael Schumacher.

It was a total stunt but its still a good one. Way to go when you can get the most successful racing driver of all time to do a little stunt like that for your show.

However, considering that the Ferrari went round the track 7 seconds faster than any other car they have had on the show, I wouldn't be surprised if Michael was the stig for that one lap test.

Plus he was on the development team for that car, so he'll know how to get the best out of it.

felonious says:

That was pretty awesome. :)

I wonder if the Stig could be many different people, and that's why they don't reveal his identity? Because he doesn't actually exist as a single person.

slowevo says:

Personally, i do think he is many different people. I figure the whenever they test a car, they have the test drive from the company come out to get the best out of the car.

Again this is my own speculation. Its probably wrong. But whatever, still love top gear.

I don't believe Schue is actually the Stig. Then again, you never know. Top Gear is a very popular program.

blueguydotcom says:

Niallyb,

I could not tell you anything about Michael Schumacher beyond the fact he's famous and it involves car racing in some way. For what type of car, when, where or any of that, no idea. I couldn't tell you the difference between Nascar, Cart, Formula 1, Lemans, Concours d' Elegance or any other kind of car racing/showing. I see zero point in televised car racing.

oberg says:

Oh my gosh! Not a fan of F1 here, but I can at least recognize one of the greatest drivers in the history of motorsports.

If you don't know who Michael Schumacher is, please keep it to yourself, less you embarrass us all.

I think most people agree that Schuey isn't the "regular" Stig, but he was most likely wearing the white helmet for the FXX lap, since that particular FXX is Michael's personal car (it lacks the white stripes on all other FXXs), and I doubt he'd allow anyone else to pilot it... :)

What a lap though!

You know, I never thought about the possibility of multiple Stigs before, but I suppose it is possible that the factory test driver becomes the Stig. But what of the appearances where he's not testing a car, like the race through London, driving the remote control G-Whiz, and the time they did the 24 hour endurance race? Who is he then?

canadia says:

12:44 PM, 06/22/09

The Stig = Dread Pirate Roberts

Interesting thought.

The black stig could indeed have be Cary Elwes until he retired to enjoy his weath and fame....leaving Mandy Patinkin take over the duties as the white stig.

dpodloch says:

I think its one person for the Top Gear test track since not every manufacturer has a race drivers or a really high skilled driver. On other tracks it can be someone else.

altimadude00 says:

I'm pretty confidant that there have been several "Special event" Stigs, where the car has been so rare that only a handful of drivers would be entrusted with its survival. However, I would guess that the Stig at the Top Gear track and the ones that do the epic races are one-in-the-same. Consistency in height and walking mannerisms are very difficult to mimic. In this episode, it was clear to me that this was not the Stig we have come to know.

hondacura4 says:

I admire Michael Schumacher's talent but absolutely despise him personally as he is so self absorbed and arrogant.

Ayrton Senna is still the best driver in my eyes.

estreka says:

I seriously doubt Schumacher is The Stig, but I bet that video gets tons of hits.

4g63 says:

02:39 PM, 06/22/09

haha thats cool. but i think schumacher is just one of many stigs.. he's perhaps the most famous of them all.

stovt001 says:

03:15 PM, 06/22/09

You know, back when some newspaper reported they figured out who the Stig was (and I can't remember who they said it was) I made the comment that it was merely Stig's helper, much like Santa has "helpers" in the mall every year. This is further proof for that theory.

stovt001 says:

03:17 PM, 06/22/09

And Altimadude is right. The walking style isn't the same at all.

andys120 says:

Yeah, bluedotguy, I wouldn't be so proud of not recognizing one of the most prominent athletes of our times. I'm not a big fan of basketball but I'd sure know LeBron James or Michael Jordan if I saw them.

Count me as a believer in the Multiple Stig Theory, "The Stig" was just a brilliantly funny concept. I don't know exactly why but the Bitish are just funnier than we are.

"I don't know exactly why but the Bitish are just funnier than we are"

They don't take themselves as seriously and don't get offended as easily.

I gotta agree with sloevo. Whether it's him or not, I like to believe it's a slr of different drivers and not just one man.

mj85 says:

07:54 PM, 06/22/09

My guess is that they have a contract with one driver who usually portrays The Stig and others fill in from time to time. He generally takes the same line around the track and spends a decent amount of time coaching celebrities around the track in the Lacetti.

I believe there is a clause in his contract that allows the BBC to find another Stig if his identity is revealed.

mikers7 says:

09:49 PM, 06/22/09

No way the Stig is Schumacher. For the FXX run, absolutely, but for the other cars? No way. I doubt Schuey would've shown the twitchiness from other supercars with 200 less hp.

blueguydotcom says:

"Yeah, bluedotguy, I wouldn't be so proud of not recognizing one of the most prominent athletes of our times. I'm not a big fan of basketball but I'd sure know LeBron James or Michael Jordan if I saw them."

I couldn't tell you Lebron James from Tracy McGrady. I know the names but I haven't seen an NBA game in over a decade.

My wife's a big fan of Top Gear. I showed her the clip and she asked me who it was. I told her. She shrugged. Might as well have been the guy who drove Herbie in the 1970s Disney movies. Heck, Don Knotts would have made a bigger impact on us. Being that he's dead we'd be surprised.

firstwagon says:

Watched the episode tonight. The part with the "Stig" was fun but the best part watching the classic Jag XK120 race the Vincent and the steam engine.

Love that old Jaguar.

Ben Collins is the main Stig, he did most of the driving and also appeared as himself in a few of the episodes. There are different size Stig suits because sometimes Collins isn't available and sometimes events dictate that the owner has to be driving, perhaps for insurance reasons or because they don't want anyone else driving their car. He's very popular and would probably lose the job if it was officially confirmed that he is the Stig, which is what happened to Perry McCarthy, the original Stig. Schumacher is unlikely to have appeared as the Stig before. This was the first episode of a new series, budgets have been cut and it created a lot of publicity. The black FXX is indeed Schumacher's own car and there's no doubt it was him driving. It's just a shame they didn't get him to do a proper lap in the reasonably priced car, Lewis Hamilton did a stunning lap with virtually no practise. For a long time the Top Gear crew spread a rumor that Damon Hill (a former F1 champion, for those of you who don't know/care who Schumacher is!) was the Stig but that's pretty unlikely too.

blueguydotcom says:

07:02 AM, 06/23/09

Damon Hill = Matt Damon's dad?

blueguydotcom seriously.. keep it to yourself... lol

It was a pretty funny episode, I don't know if you guys watched the whole thing and I can't see the video from work but at the end there is a lap on the crappy car they have for celebrities and he was soooo funny, messing up everywhere, grinding gears, he even took a camera out almost running over the camera man, cracked the windshield... HILARIOUS
