If Hyundai eventually fails in the U.S. market, it won't be for any lack of trying. The company that brought you the 100,000-mile warranty and job-loss protection is now taking the incentives game one step further with guaranteed gas.
Buy any new Hyundai (Genesis models excluded) and the company will lock in your gas at $1.49 for the first year of ownership. Owners will get a gas card that only charges them the set rate and Hyundai will pay the rest. We're guessing it'll go over a little better than Hummer's attempt last year.

Is this on top of the $250/month program they're also offering?

I wouldn't call this creative or original (as Edmunds does in the bumper sticker for the news story), since Chrysler did something similar just last summer. However, I WOULD call this well-timed!

Yeah, Chrysler definitely gets credit for thinking this up. It's odd Hyundai's copying it because Chrysler has some of the lowest fuel economy around whereas most of the Hyundai line-up is now fully competitive or near or at the top. Still, keeps them in the news headlines right as the CARS program rolls online and goodness knows they've had a lot of success with scrappage programs in other countries, so this may be more ingenious than I'm giving them credit for.

Too bad it doesn't apply to the Genesis....
