A record number of the classic Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows (Silberpfeile in German) will make their way to the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 3-4 to celebrate 75 years since their first racing debut.
It was actually the press that gave the cars the Silver Arrow name after the German government-backed Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix cars dominated the track between 1934 and 1939. Benz's post-war F1 cars from 1954 and 1955 also took on the Silver Arrow moniker.
The dozen racers will set the record for the largest collection of Silver Arrows ever seen in one location, and the 1934 W25, 1937 W125, 1939 W165 and 1954 W196 will all be in attendance.
For an idea of how much power these bad boys still have, take a look at this vid of the 1938 "Silberpfeile" tearing up Park Avenue.

Not to be smart but........where is the "tearing up" part of the video. I guess I had my hopes up.
